Not obvious from the posts, but is anyone in IAH right now?
had a late departure from SEA, missed my connection, so am in the midst of a 7+ hour layover
. And initially downgraded from bought F to Y.
Luckily a few minutes ago I looked at my reservation & seat selections & saw an empty 3C. Went to the desk, but the system shows F 0, so lounge angel couldn't sell the upgrade to me. Encouraged her to hear that I bought F, so wasn't offering to buy it, just wanted it. No can do. Asked her to help me work out ways how can we make it happen. No can do. Asked who do we need to call who can get in through whatever part of the system shows that seat as available. Can't be done. I just have to take my chances of an upgrade on boarding. I find this an awkward process, because you have to be around & in earshot when they start calling, or sweat lots that they called & I didn't hear. Also for a 7:15pm - 11:30 flight it's the difference between having a meal preboarding or not.
I must have talked to her long enough, because all of a sudden she finds her typing fingers, head down, eyes focused. Has she dismissed me firmly, or is she on my case? Feeling tired, hungry, but hopeful I linger instead of retiring hurt.
A couple of long minutes, feet shuffling behind me, keys jingling, later, her head pops up she says this may work, and low, the printed springs into chatter mode.
She tells me she shouldna have done it, they may not like it (I hear: a) I may be demoted to the far rear of the plane, or b) I may be denied boarding like last time (another story  )), but, hands me a crisp fresh BP for 3C.
What did I say or do that encouraged her to work out how to do it? Why not do that 20 minutes before the first time I asked? Why not have a system that seeks to restore original class of booking - fully flexible F, when the system rebooked me in the first place. Grrr. Gnash.
Anyway, if anyone is around we have time for a quick drink in the UA N lounge.
