Good morning everyone,

I recently had the very distinct pleasure of dropping from WP down to SG, however like all good demotions there is a silver lining; in this case it is in Sydney using the QF Dom QC Lounge instead of the J lounge.

Why is that good you may ask? Well I finally get to try the I famous pancake maker!
However, it has been enhanced, out of order proudly placed upon it this morning.

Now Red Roo if you are reading this, I worked damn hard on losing my status last year, the least you could have done was to repair the cracks in the pancake maker. I know some people on here are concerned about the safety of your Neil Perry inspired pancake maker, but the European manufacturer has expressed that with inspections of once every 1300 pancakes that it will be safe.

So please, how about it? Put it back into service, it really doesn't bother me if captain DeCrespigny isn't operating it in the lounge, I just want a pancake!

ReLoad - not sure where you have been looking but Syd J lounge has had the pancake (well, reall, pikelet) maker there each time I used it last year - and yes, it was operating! :p

Operating and delicious! It was there yesterday too.

Aaah.... you two are a tease, aren't you! The WP life......

I still can't understand the obsession with that pancake maker!

Haven't been in a QC for yonks. I hope they still have decent bread and Bircher muesli available.

Slightly OT, but may I ask (if it's not impertinent) - were you not offered a chance for the 'extra year' comp, with that email asking about your travel plans? Has QF stopped doing this?

Sadly for me I mostly fly out of MEL in the mornings so never saw one.

Im thinking we need to have naming ceremonies for each of the machines. We can name them after AFF legends!

No I was not offered an extra year, I had 900 SC's which wasn't enough, 90% of that on qf metal.

This year I will easily get WP, although I will get it earlier thanks to an AA status run

I would again suggest that as a Mel/syd/Mel whY warrior I am again a very low ranking WP/SG

HI BNE suffered the same fate on the weekend, however as they do their maintenance locally an engineer was found and the fix applied without too much time offline on Sunday.

To our great disappointment 2 weeks ago the pancake maker at the Stamford Plaza in Adelaide was also out of order:evil:

you mean it isn't done offshore anymore??

The pancake maker in Syd QP was out of order when I was there on booking day. Surely it hasn't been faulty since then!

By the way I think it should be available all day not just breakfast. I'd have pancakes anytime of the day.

There has been a pancake machine in the Mel J lounge for a while now. You just need to fight your way through the coffee line to access it as not a lot of thought was put into its placement.

And yes, agree they are pikelets

They're definitely not crepes. Closer to american style pancakes.

There is one operating in the PER QP. Reasonably consistent, only once in the last 8 weekly trips has it been US.

Can anyone confirm if the machine has been fixed? Will be there Tues morning and wouldn't mind tasting them to see what the fuss is about?

Thanks gogo

Moving further afield... Last year I introduced my kids to the dubious delights of US hotel buffet brekkies. We all loved the wafflers, where you pour a cup of batter on, close the lid, flip it over and listen for the chime. My daughter, awaiting her turn in San Antonio, looked at the weirdly deformed waffles being produced by those ahead of her in the queue, thought "What is WRONG with these people?" and when it was her time realised that instead of the circular shapes in every other waffle maker in America, here in Texas you got Texas-shaped waffles.

I flew transcon today and there's a new QF enhancement. The ice cream in Y after the main meal is now, well, it's the cheese portion and the two crackers. I confirmed this with the FA who was equally disappointed, the ice cream is no more.

I suspected that earlier this month.

Very disappointing.

Cheap! Trying to save costs by reducing customer benefits. Who is teaching them about retaining customer goodwill?

Summer's over, so the ice creams are gone (perhaps?). Although, MEL is set to break a record 9 days over 30º now. Summer? Gone? pah!

No, I don't think so, sadly. I raised it with the FA and she said they'd been done away with entirely. The cheese and crackers now seem to be the after dinner treat, if you can call it that. They were absent from the meal try and in it's place was a bread roll that I don't recall seeing in some months. It was a proper dinner roll (longish) rather than the square things of past years.
