QF Platinum One - how successful has it really been?

I was booked in 24 yesterday (equip sub moved me to 23) and have 23A for tonight's flight (no free seat next to me).

For all of my upcoming flights I am currently in 25 so will see how many of those change to 23/24 and update in a thread somewhere.

Just a quick message to share a pleasant WP1 experience today in unpleasant circumstances. I had to promptly organise a flight for my mum to comfort her sister whose husband only has a day or two to live.

I called the WP1 SST at 1pm. By 1:05pm my mum had a classic reward seat on the 6pm direct flight.

They can't do absolutely anything, but they certainly will do the best they can (e.g. they couldn't get me 3 Y class classic seats on the once a week BNE to Queenstown flight in the winter school holidays - they could get me J or via SYD though).

I was very pleased today with the P1 line as a J Classic Award seat was made available to me on a flight with no J Classic Award seats left and JASAs priced at 360,000 points (50,000 minimum points for the sector usually).

I recall this being specifically mentioned in the P1 benefits...but was this possible for WPs in the past or is this truly a new WP1 benefit?

A very good outcome from the WP1 SST.
Thankyou for the update and best wishes to you all at this awful time.

Or none of them have tried the "call ahead" process, or they have and haven't reported back because they are too busy  ;)

Or never there when it's open. It's been open once in my last 8 visits (always early morning or evening for me). In contrast, I always manage a treatment in BA lounges because they are open when the lounge is open.

Or maybe too busy testing the quality of the food and wine....

Can any P1s confirm that they have been able to make advanced Flounge spa bookings?

This was mentioned in reports from the Qantas AFF lunch. But there is no mention of it on the Qantas website about Platinum one. Is there official acknowledgement of this benefit? Anyway I am travelling internationally from MEL soon, I'll make some inquiries.

Also there were some other benefits for Platinum One reported from that lunch that don't seem to have materialised. Specifically an increased baggage allowance and the ability to use the first hosts at airports that have them. Although personally neither of these is much benefit to me. Perhaps these are the mysterious 'unpublished benefits'.

The spa isn't always open when the F lounge is open?
What are the spa opening times anyway?

I think its only open at the times when there are flights with F service on board departing. I think it opens a couple of hours before QF127 then closes after QF31. This is based on observation after having been int here with family quite a bit.

Hope this helps.

[From the original note in the P1 evaluation:
<Staff - What is even more interesting is what THEY think of Platinum One. > ]
Would also be interested in the response...?

I've spoken to three lounge staff about it (SIN, LAX, BNE) and their questions were the same.

a) Have you noticed any difference in P to P1?
b) Are you getting more benefits or better treatment?

None understood what it takes to qualify for P1. These folks see hundreds of platinums a day , infact in LA the quote was "everyone is platinum".
Not understanding what is required between different levels may explain why there is no extra treatment by staff. When I explained it was 3x platinum, all were surprised there was nothing extra special aka CL treatment.

QF staff have a wealth of knowledge so I like talking to them where possible. Afterall, the more we both learn the better it gets for everyone!

Well, I see WP1 as an extension of the extra benefits a WP gets at 2x Platinum (the extra benefits @ 2400 SCs), and they're not all that much to write home about IMHO (without sounding too negative).
Anything more than another 3 valet parking vouchers and you're onto a good thing :)

I'm with trippin on this. If P1 has been given to 3000 out of 8.5mln members of the scheme (quote Allan Joyce at launch event) it represents a pretty loyal and high spending bunch. The benefits should be commensurate.

I don't think giving CL access would devalue the CL product.

Thanks for the update, ttr.
There is obviously a gap in the QF staff communication link.

I sent an email off to platinum one email address. And got a call back from the P1 desk quite quickly ( I was impressed by the speed of the call back). They said there are no spa pre-bookings for platinum ones (and platinums as well). They said only first class and CL passengers can book the day before. P1s and WPs can only book when they show up in the lounge.

It is not a new benefit.

I have done this in the past and been given MEL-LAX (X2) in J when it was not otherwise available.

The P1 event was an AMAZING networking event (please make it a yearly 'do', QF!) - I met a bunch of new people there and it's VERY clear from all the networking that us frequent flyers pretty much think along the same lines.

If this is the feedback of a handfull of P1 AFF members, I'd be inclined to think the other 3,000 P1 members feel the same way..

Thanks, good to know - will keep that for future reference!
