If only we could let US Airways know they mgiht be missing out on a decent slice of business by not having such an option available down here and seeing what they could arrange/who they might be able to partner with...

Sometimes the best kept secret should be kept as is .... Otherwise too many people use this and ended up no award seats for everybody?

Ironically when I first raised this in AFF (and it happened at FT for a while) I never expected that this thread will go that long, and I haven't even redeem one ticket using US Dividend Miles yet (I have been using BMI instead)!

This indeed would be the Holy Grail. At the moment on an Amex plat charge transferring your MR points via SPG you can earn $1 = 0.62 DM.

Not worth it IMHO as long as US sells off the Miles so conveniently. I rather put my AX Points to SQ for F Saver awards.

Account now sitting pretty at 150K points after purchasing 25K + 25K bonus for both the Mrs and I :)

Does anyone know if there is a tool or website that shows you which airlines has F cabins to particular destinations? Reason I ask is last night I was mucking around with some potential itin's and noticed that there weren't any F cabin options with United flying from LAX to PVR (Puerto Vallerta). It's not really a big deal as I believe the flight is only a couple of hours and J isn't so bad but would certainly make planning a lot easier.

You can use ExpertFlyer etc and see if F Class is being sold (which is the Full fare First)... For award availability however you would need to resort to the ANA Tool, Continental.com, Aeroplan....

Keep in mind that Continental operated UA flights only have Business, not First. And First Class within North America incl Mexico is big rubbish.

Still toying with the idea of buying an 15k+15k...

What do we reckon guys, will another promo come along in the next few months?

I dont need the miles but maybe a good way for a J South pacific trip...

Chances are very high...since I started playing in late 2009 there has never been a gap of more than 2 months. Mind you there was nearly a 6 month gap between 100% promos when the toyed with 75% bonuses.

LHR/MEL/Europe FF on FT in the US Dividend Miles 100% Bonus thread:

Could either be midnight on the 31st (ie back to back promos) or there could be a break of two weeks, or a month or two months... I don't think we have waited longer than two months.

however... nothing to say they will definately have another one...

I hope that the gap isn't more than 5 months. I would like to go for a quick European summer break around May/June:)

I think the longest was probably a little over 2 months around about Dec 10 / Jan 11.

They then ran a 75% buy promo followed by a 75% share promo, not starting another 100% until Jun 2011.

75% would be a little hard to swallow at the new $0.035 price. :-|

I bought 40k plus 40k on this offer since the exchange still seemed favourable and not sure where the $A is going to go next year...

I was weighing up buying another 15k plus 15k for a J South Pacific redemption under another family account but in the end didn't bother... Hopefully there isn't too long till another bonus offer but nothing less than 100% will be tempting...

Yes, anything under 100% would be hard to swallow.
Fingers crossed.

+1
So, l've now got 80k in the bank. Once l find out my holidays from studies, l can get busy organising a J/F SYD-BUD return trip and hope that another promo rolls around in the new few months.

I bought too (40+ 40 for my wife plus 35 + 35 for me) but mainly because I had a fair few points from GrandSlam and this topped up enough for J flights to Europe. GS points averaged cost down a fair bit, don't think I would participate in another 100% buy promo for a while. Looking forward to transfer promos, even 75% one sems better value than this though of course 100% would be definite best value.

Keep in mind that often on TG you can get 4 seats all on the same flight (booked as 2x2), although your clan may be bigger than that.. worth keeping in mind though!

I have booked 5 in J at times on TG to Asia.

First time I went to book two consecutive flights (and three if needed as TG) to get the 5 seat as availaibity was only showing 2 per flight, but the friendly operator asked why don't I book 5 all on the one flight :)

Naturally I accepted.

Lesson from that now is that when I am flying more that 2 , that I still ask even if availability only shows 2.

This gained 3 in J next July MEL-CDG.

Yeah, i will have to put a better effort into the 2012 grand slam (hopefully it will be run and they don't tighten it up any more)... I only got 10k from GS 2011 and with the 100k i bought earlier in the year (at the 2.7 cent cost) i was able to use the 110k miles to get a 120k award (they let me have it for 110k)... So saved a little bit off the current award i have booked, even though i am still trying to sort out a LH flight that the route will be cancelled before i take it...

Guys,

I saw a post in either this thread or the other Dividend miles thread about ringing up the airlines to confirm tickets etc.

All our flights are on either TG or LH and I have been able to access these and select seats etc with no problems.

Is it necessary to call the airline office? Or is this enough confirmation? I just don't want to get to the airport and have no booking!

That's great news :) Hopefully most of the operators are friendly

I had a confirmed booking on TG. A ticket number. Seat assignment (done over the phone with TG). Pre-order meals.

3 months after booking US sent me through a schedule change notification making changes to my flights. I was moved to a different flight despite the one I wanted to be on still flying. Once I managed to get US to stop insisting there was a 'schedule change' they claimed that the booking was never confirmed...took them 3 months to notice! I called TG and they had no clue what US was talking about. US then proceeded to screw up my booking 6 flights showing for 4 sectors...actually on the DM site it showed 12 flights! I eventually found a supervisor who was prepared to talk to TG and restored the booking to the original itinerary...she could offer no explanation of what went on. I was lucky not to lose the flights though.

I'm not sure what the moral of the story is...in my case TG would've said everything was A OK...US still went ahead and tried to cough it up!

No it is not necessary to call each airline to confirm. As long as US provides me with each airlines reference numbers that is good enough. I do however go online, as you do, where possible to select seats / meals etc.

while not mandatory, it is most wise to call every airline to confirm they have ticket numbers against the booking.

after selecting your seats with them, simply ask 'do you have a ticket number against these flights?'

there have been some stories where people have pnrs and have selected seats, but without ticket numbers, the flights actually cancel.

that is the firm advice from FT.

I did call TG in sydney and gave them the confirmation numbers which they confirmed and also gave them my mobile number if there was any changes on their end. I trust them more than US airways.

I would like to know what's the best seat in F and in J on the SYD BKK run a340-600 and then again on the 700-300er BKK CDG run.
