Some changes coming to TID, as well as an outage as they switch over:
TID is excited to announce some changes that will allow us to better meet the needs of our travellers.

From 16 December 2011 our policies will be underwritten at Lloyd's, the world's leading insurance market and TID has also chosen Specialty Assist, a leading global emergency assistance company to provide our emergency assistance services.

At 6pm AEDT on 15 December 2011, our web site will be unavailable so we can make the necessary changes and our customer service centre will also close. Please contact us well ahead of this time if you know that you need to make any changes to your policy or extend your cover.

We anticipate services will be restored around midnight or in the early hours of 16 December.
Travel Insurance Direct and Lloyds

All you Insurance sage's out there, what does this mean?

Presumably TID had it's system plug into Allianz's system (I believe Allianz use Polisy/Mainframe but I doubt TID would be linking directly into it). I can't imagine the switchover would be a easy job, hence the outage - often the mappings between systems can be complex, would have hated to be on that project. The insurer also needs to consider policies in force (i.e. running off the portfolio using old rules and rating) alongside new policies (which would require new rules and rating from a different backend).

Interesting re: the switchover from Allianz to Lloyds... perhaps the portfolio with Allianz had an unacceptable loss ratio and they decided to jack up the rates, TID went to market and Lloyds won it in the end. I think it's odd that they went to Lloyds though.

thanks, read what they say about pre existing medical conditions. No forms, just call them. Wonder what that means? Its all too hard?

Bad timing if thats the case with Xmas coming up.

I would say that Allianz would have different disclosure requirements for pre-existing medical conditions compared to Lloyds - it seems to be all the rage these days with taking declarations over the phone, so I wouldn't be surprised that after 15 December TID will start taking declarations via the phone not via form. Maybe this was the issue in the first place i.e. Allianz wanted forms, TID wanted to move to telephony.

yes, i will find out.

I like forms...i copy what I did last time.

I only discovered this as making a claim for my phone that broke on my USA trip....grrrrrr.
Policy was taken out before the 16th Dec ;)

I'm pleased I bought a new CY 2012 policy from TID a few weeks ago! The new Lloyds annual frequent traveller policy doesn't include your partner for free... if you want to include a partner, it is $450 (up from $318). My travel is either just myself, or my wife and I, so the included partner policy at no extra cost with TID's Allianz backed insurance was great for me.
