Qantas thanks its most loyal customers

What a wise suggestion.....

Not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer now are we??

You make me smile:D

Anywhere else they charge a price for the entertainment that you provide......;)

I dont want gift cards. I want to use my points how and when I see fit (within reason). Im not an idiot, I get that there will be very little availability during the Olympics or any major event for that matter, but to suggest that I should be "happy" that FF awards are (generally) available during off peak, both season and time, is just wrong. AFAIC, the FF program should reward you for your loyalty and not as a means to offload seats that you cant otherwise sell. And, if they wanted to be fair, those flights ought to be cheaper, points wise, as they are cash wise.

I don't get you. You know that on any airline there is a limited availability during a major event. however i still found award flights during that time. In fact i was able to price up a MEL-HKG-LHR F trip as an ASA for around 400k and $600 which is exceptional value as it is worth around 780 SC and 63k of points.

and again. please point to me these seats that cannot be sold? Or are you just spouting now? and remember what you may perceive as the wrong time to travel are times when other people want to travel.

My point remains, that I want to, and think I have the right to, use my points for what I want, and not what Qantas want me to, ie: the flights they cant sell to anyone else.......

You have no such "right" - when you signed up for the QANTAS FF program you agreed to the T&C (award seats are limited, blah, blah).

QANTAS has provided stats in the past - 1+ million award seats available, 80% of WP upgrade requests successful etc.

You've said you're going to fly someone else in previous posts. Please do so, and report whether the grass is greener over there. If so, we might all move.

As it turns out there were 3 vacant business class seats on the flight and economy had what appeared to be a very light load. Almost every row had a shadow and from what I could see 5DE vacant, 6DEF vacant and so on.

And for what it is worth this is one of the new 737's and the IFE was not working. No music either. :(

Weird. Of course EF was listing zeros for many of the fare buckets. I think that means that there might still be seats, as the fare bucket is suppose to disappear when seats are totally gone (if I understand and remember what I read on AFF properly)

I sent you a PM. Hope it is useful for the future and it also makes sense.

Man, there is no point in continuing this. Really you can lead a horse to water and all that. The only remaining thing I want to see out of this is any single example where a cash seat is not also available as a ASA.

So am I..... I'm waiting for the example too.

Yes it is useful. I normally do the same thing but this time around I was a little slow off the mark and there was no getting back.

What dates did you find these flights on??

And im not sure i understand what you're getting at...... my perceived wrong time to travel is when others want to?? Do you mean that my perceived right time to travel is the wrong time??

But irrespective of all of that, i'm not prepared to go somewhere I dont want to, at a time I dont want to, just for the sake of redeeming my points. It defeats the purpose of the exercise.

As for the Olympics, i'm not looking for further travel at that time as my summer holiday is all sorted but having said that, I wouldn't necessarily expect to find seats to LHR in any case (much like I didn't expect to find seats to JHB during the world cup), but why not JFK or LAX? I know that the northern summer is peak season, but so what??

The MEL-HKG-LHR was for feb - when i am on holidays. There were some F seats in june but that is it. there were Y seats for most days in July/August too
And im not sure i understand what you're getting at...... my perceived wrong time to travel is when others want to?? Do you mean that my perceived right time to travel is the wrong time??

Yes that.. just because you think it isn't an appropriate time to travel does not make it wrong. Everyone has different needs. My best time for leave is feb/mar due to work. so because there is l

No one is suggesting you do that. but two of us have found availability during the period you mentioned - looking to LHR as an example.

I haven't looked at LAX or JFK for that time.

In my searches on the QF website, not all flights for sale appear as ASA options. If thats a limitation of the website so be it. I do not have access to EF to independently confirm ASA availability, so failing me calling QF and asking for specific flights, thats the best I can do.

I dont think I or anyone else should be disadvantaged because we cant make use of all the tools that are available externally to Qantas. I use the tools made available to me by QF, and my opinions and thoughts are based on those experiences.

If you want to flame me because im not into "this" as much as you, so be it.

ASA's are just that Any Seat Awards. i.e. any seat in the inventory. the price just varies. so the only time there are no ASA's are if that class has sold out. you also cannot "look up" ASA on EF simply because it comes from ALL fare buckets.

Ah, ok. I just wasn't sure. I certainly don't get up a 2am to do that sort of thing, so a bit slow at times as well.

Tthe problem here is that what your writing does not make sense. It is an any seat award. Then you're drawing conclusions that do not appear to be valid. It is not a case of being flamed for not being into 'this'. Surely the problem is blaming qantas whenyou not being into 'this' might offer an explanation. Again one date and route when ASA are not available when a seat is available for sale?

As an example from the QF website SYD-LHR 4 June 2012 return 20 June 2012.

Also have you tried your preferred dates in the following thread? I'm sure plenty of people will be happy to run some searches for you, including me.

Disgraceful you say? ...
im not interested in random searches, nor domestic, nor Y. I also don't plan my international travel 1 week in advance, assuming your random search was international....
Well, I plan my travel 6 to 18 months out and aside from one sale booking to LAX, all my current Qantas bookings are F/J/YASA's purchased at classic award point rates.

The award seats are there; you may have to be looking 353 days out, but they do exist.

As for Expert Flyer (& KVS) it's a paid service USD5 per month or USD100 PA, or USD85 for Gold members of this forum. However, Flight Stats returns award bucket availability (P/U/Z/X classes) as well and it's free to register.

... Anf finally, who makes you an authority on what constitutes a misrepresentation? I find those that think their opinion is somehow more valid equally annoying.
In relation to opinion, the collective experience of this forum's membersp, including yours, helps to enhance the award garnering opportunity of all. Please do not discount someone's stated experience because it does not align with your assumptions/proponency. (Even after over 1000 commercial flights including several 100 on Qantas, I certainly don't.)

By the way has anyone actually had one of these so-called op-ups during peak travel times that were not due to full loads?

I certainly haven't had any over the past 2 weeks, and assumed this would be the case, as I have flown during the times below:

For SYD / MEL / BNE / ADL and CBR, this process will only be available Monday to Friday between 0500-0900 and 1500-2000 bases on the customer’s originally booked flight.

For services from PER to SYD,MEL and BNE the offering will be all day Monday to Friday
