>>>> ADDED 30 Sept 2010 <<<<

Background to this thread:

In a similar vein to the "Flight Availability / Upgrade Probability Help Desk" there has an increase in the posting of questions about specific seat allocation/availability on a flight. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with such queries. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.

This new consolidated thread is where you can ask questions about seating allocation/availability. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve usability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread:

Please post questions about availability of specific seats in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, Origin, Destination, date and cabin as applicable.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Going for short visit to Europe in Y so would like best possible seat (and don't really trust seat guru/expert as they give diff seatmaps)

QF1 13 Aug SYD-LHR
QF2 17 Aug LHR-SYD

Currently have 40C for both (I like aisle so I can freely get up)

I'm WP

Any help thanks !

Oops - should be
13 oct QF1 syd - lhr
17 oct QF2 lhr - syd

Thanks

I'd say you're probably in the best possible seat for whY .. both flights look reasonably lightly loaded, though I've not looked at the individual sectors so that might be less than entirely true. I don't have any favourite seats on the 744, so I'd aim for what you've got.

Just wondering what our chances are of retaining 38J and 38K on flight QF9 on 4th July 2012. Obviously the flight has not long opened up; I am silver club; husband is WP but may move back to Gold come next assessment. My flight was a freebie. These are the excellent Exit row seats on the A380, PE.

Do we get bumped if say two WP's ask for it? How does all this work? Thankyou to anyone who replies.

which seats would you choose 747-438 qantas.

We have been given seats 18 A and B on the upper deck for a flight from London to Hong Kong on way to Sydney. We could have seats 18 J and K. Are they better or is there really no difference. Are the pairs of seats on the upper deck opposite each other in the aisle or are they offset? A and B are on the toilet side but look to be further away. We are seniors and this is our first flight to Australia to see our son and we have never flown business class before. We were advised to get row 16 but seems there is no chance of this :-((

They're much the same, personally I'd go AB to be on the other side to the toilet (less noise). But it's not that far away, and there arent that many pax so it shouldnt be an issue either way.

My upper deck preference order:

16 (any) - exit row
13 (any) - rear of front three - less traffic passing
12/17 - middle so again minimise traffic
11AB
18AB
11JK (toilet noise)
18JK (toilet noise)

Have a look at the seat map on Qantas.com to get an idea of the layout.

Barring a change of aircraft, it is unlikely you'll get bumped.

However, do keep up a regular check.

Just after some advice please,
I am booked to fly the domestic leg of QF8, BNE-SYD later this year on a Business class (D) ticket.
After going to chose my seat using the seat selector on the booking page of the Qantas website, I see that row 4 has a few seats currently available to select.

If I were to select a seat in row 4 of the 747, is it likely I will still be allocated this seat upon check-in, despite the fact I am only a QFF bronze member?

A second question which probably comes down to personal opinion; Is there much of a difference between F and J class for a one hour flight?
I can see the advantage of sitting in 1st class on a long haul flight, however for shorter travel a window seat would be preferable and I am not sure how good seats 4A or 4K would be for looking out the window given they are the bassinet seats.

Thanks Serfty. I have the trip downloaded to CheckMyTrip and will keep tabs.

40G or 73J on QF29?

Just selecting seats for my flight QF29 MEL-LHR. My best choices seem to be 40G (inner aisle bulkhead), which seat guru says has heaps of leg space but 'limited recline'. My other choice would be for 73J, which is the very back, one of two and seatguru reckons 73K is often 'the last to be allocated'. I'm not all that tall. Better off hoping for the two together or taking the bulkhead seat?

I scored 71D on the A380 on the way back, so I don't think I'll be changing that. :)

Re: 40G or 73J on QF29?

40G :) If it is the config I am thinking of the outer seats in 40 HJK are crew rest. I have sat here before having taken advice from a serfty post and I was very happy. It is like being in a mini cabin too. :)

Re: 40G or 73J on QF29?

I second the selection of 40G having sat in that seat myself on the same flight.

Bit annoying to have a slightly limited recline, but it's very private, with sufficient legroom and easy access ttto the lavs. The only thing that sucks is being able to see the lucky schmucks in PE through the curtains! ;)

Re: 40G or 73J on QF29?

I've chosen 40G. Now, anyone know where to pick up a nice lightweight blow-up footrest/ottoman in Melbourne?

Re: 40G or 73J on QF29?

Don't know where the concept of limited recline comes from. I have used 40G (or 38G on some configs) many times and the recline is just like any other economy seat on the aircraft.

Re: 40G or 73J on QF29?

40G is great and I didn't notice a limited recline. It's a very private area of the plane and I also didn't notice the limited recline. And you can recline at any time, including meals, because there is no one behind you.

QF 737-800 Exit Rows (SYD-ADL)
Just selected 14d,14e at about T-70.
Should (or will) these seats come with a cost, as there was no request for payment in MMB.

No charge for exit rows on Domestic flights.

Thanks Serfty.
I also have a TransTas in Nov (I would gladly pay for an exit row on that flight) and later a Y+ SYD-LHR, hopefully no cost on that one (we have 38j,38k exit row).
