Just wondering ppls thoughts on booking one airline flying on another.
I've been flying up to Rocky lately and I've noticed QANTAS are using Alliance on this route, the plane was fine although old, couldn't get a cuppa or coffee due to no real galley and it was over 50mins late.
Is chartering out regional routes to make more money another sign of QANTAS slipping.
After flying to syd on virgins new 737 I feel like qantas quality is really slipping.

Alliance are operating some flights on behalf of Sunstate. Why I don't know. Possibly because of a need to reposition an aircraft for Alliances FIFO business in the region?

Wet-leasing happens in a lot of places. The BNE-Rocky seemed to move to alliance when QF had to check the Q400's for the landing gear issues and have stayed ever since.

The lateness of the flight could happen to any airline, and its not as if DJ are the best at OTP is it?

As for the 737's, QF have a few new ones popping up lately.

Well the on time rate is less than 70% due to the time it takes to load the slightly larger aircraft I'm guessing, could of been cause of the exercise on in Rocky too.
Yeah flew the Syd-BNE route on DJ's ne 737-800 love the lower overhead baggage rack which pushes up rather, and the purple lights are very easy on the eyes.
QF737-400 really need to be replaced.
If only virgin had more regional lounges :) cairns, Hobart would be nice

Going back to the point different airline less service, not very happy staff, old plane, qantas branded ticket.
It feels like they are contracting out because they can get away with it on this route.

What aircraft type? Because I'm sure they do a meal service including hot drink on the F50 ADL-OLP. And I can't imagine their jets can't do the same.

I did BNE - MKY in May and it to was on Alliance. Flight was late, but that was due to late incoming connections

F100, in the case of the OP I suspect its more than likely the short flight time BNE-ROK or VV rather than a galley issue.

It's roughly the same road distance. But i've only down BNE-ROK in one of those BAe flying box things or at low level. What's the flight time on an F100.

12/15/17 (climb/cruise/descend)

Wow! That's really quick compared to say SYD-CBR, based on distance travelled.

No its not, Sydney to Canberra in a jet is around 20 minutes total, 8 minutes to Marulan then 12 minutes to Canberra.

One of the Alliance jets flew overhead at 0730 this morning on it's approach to MKY.At that hour a charter service.
Once again in the last 2 weeks all are landing from the north.

I have have the F100 once on my trips to Rocky this year - it was packed! There is no way we would have all fit on a Dash8. I thought it was because they had sold more tix so chartered out to Alliance.
The run in the F100 is about 10 mins less than the Dash8 (from memory) so they don't really have time to do the hot drinks I guess. Mind you, a juice and a treat box is fine for the short duration of the journey.
The flight I took had ice rattling down the length of the plane's airconditioning units. People had that look of sheer panic on their faces, till the cabin crew member calmed everyone down and explained what was happening.

Maybe. Hard to compare when the timings are not in the same terms. But it seemed to take about 10 minutes after the seat belt sign was turned off for me to get and finish eating the roast beef sandwich on a DJ 737 SYD-CBR the other week. Finished a bit after the descend started. Then seemed to take about the same time to touch down.

Anyway, what would I know I don't pay attention to details.

The BAe (or is it shorts) flying box things must have been really slow as I had a nice cooked breakfast on one of those ROK-BNE in the mid 90s.

AN used to serve a cooked breakfast on the 727s, I know the flying times well as that was my radar sector when I was an ATC, from memory the return was 8 minutes to Bindook then 12 to SYD or VV

British Aerospace manufactured the BAe146 aka Smurfjet, Fisher Price Starlifter, Jungle Jet, Toxic Terror. Shorts manufactured the S360 aka Irish Concorde & the S330 aka The Flying Shoebox. :p

Thanks. Googled pictures and I'll guess it was the Irish Concorde. :D

Flew in the SH6 BNE/MCY about 20 times.

25 minute flight, not catered.

Once a DH3 was subbed, 17 minute flight.

Another time out of MCY a Thunderstorm descended over BNE; flight took 45 minutes and went via Toowoomba.

Worst was a Sat night cancellation; they threw us into three TAXI's for the trip - 13 of us, luggage and all. (Nursed mine)

F100's last week BNE/ROK/BNE "we are sorry, because its such a short flight, we will not be serving tea or coffee..."

I did point out to the FA when she was serving me a snack (nice sanga) that I have had a full business meal between CBR and SYD - with coffee ;)

She wasn't impressed...
