My brother was on QF10 (A380) which left SIN last night on its way to MEL (he'd boarded in LHR and fortunately has 66K). So I had messaged him this morning with information about connecting to Domestic (he had a 65 minute connection to the 7.05am QF604 flight, crazy that he opted for it).

Hadn't heard from him after 9.15am (when he was due into BNE) and so I checked his FF account this morning and found that he hadn't landed in MEL as expected but instead QF had re-booked him on QF624 at 3.05pm this afternoon. I guessed that he had been delayed out of LHR or SIN (according to Expert Flyer, QF10 is usually late).

I had my parents drop into my office at 9.30am and they told me (they must have had SMS contact with him last night) that apparently 2 hours out of SIN, the flight had to turn back due to a medical emergency.

Can anyone help me with what time the QF10 has been re-scheduled to land in MEL (I presume that it must be at least 6 hours later than the standard departure -given 2 hours out, 2 hours back, 1 hour to clear medical emergency and another hour to re-fuel etc). I don't know where to start...

He's going to be shattered when he arrives home :o

P.S. Rang QF and used the automated arrival service through the QFF number, changed to MEL and found that it's arriving at 12.25pm. Now it will be interesting to hear his story.

P.P.S. This is the second family member of mine that has been on a QF (international) flight out of SIN with a Medical Emergency in the past 12 months. What odds

Melbourne airport site is showing QF10 scheduled for 12:25.

Hope everything works out OK

Thanks for checking oz_mark and TonyHancock.

Well, I'm just thankful that it wasn't him - flying LHR/MEL (even in A380) is not fun - particularly in Y. Neither of his upgrades to Y+ or J came through on the flight (zeros across the board), but that was karma as both of his flights on the way over (13/7 QF51 BNE/SIN & 13/7 QF9 SIN/LHR) came through with J upgrades - not bad for a QC Silver member.

I was a bit surprised that the flight is, as I thought, only 6.5 hours late. At what point would the original operating crew go over time and a relief crew found? That would have really put a spanner in the works.

It's listed as departing Singapore at 3.47 am, so I am sure their will be some tired PAX on board!

@ 2hr from SIN, they must have been close to diverting to DRW rather than SIN.

Is DRW 380 capable?

Is DPS A380 capable as well? I suppose that if it was, they might have dropped the pax there instead. Quite often, SIN-MEL track towards DPS before heading over to the Kimberleys, then down towards near ADL and then finally to MEL. DRW is quite a bit out of the way on this flight path.

The DRW crew got in some practice last week on a 744 that was a medical divert!

Yes but DRW more medically capable than DPS which must be taken into consideration. Why would one land in Indo? When I lived there they used to medivac complex fractures to SIN!!

Not sure if DPS in A380 capable but would not be a choice for a medical diversion, would have come down to SIN or DRW in this case.

With him back in the Australia now and back at work, he seems fairly clueless as to where (which Cabin) the Medical emergency was - he was in 66K (A380) and they didn't come into his cabin when on the ground.

Not knowing the layout of the A380, I'm at a loss so I'll move on.
