I know I am probably very stupid to have expected it, but when I booked a flight from LAX to FLL on Delta First Class I naturally assumed we would have access to the Delta lounge in LAX. No such luck - they want $50 per pax even when flying first class.
I booked the return with Virgin America on First Class (a highly inflated price) was of course overcome by the look of luxury and their white seats - and once again assuming a First Class lounge access in Fort Lauderdale. Once again no such luck.
Wonder what would happen if Qantas Business Class domestic passengers were refused access to lounges.
Anyway - am I the only one that thought we would be welcomed in lounges or have others been caught the same way.
As we are flying Virgin into the States after a 14 hour flight we were looking forward to freshening up in the Delta lounge. Probably can do without the fresh up and for $100 we can get some great champagne. (would really prefer the shower - but not at $50 each).

Mate, you can get into the Alaska Airlines Lounge if you are flyer business with Virgin Australia to LAX. Hope that helps :)

One of the quirks of the US Lounge Access rules. You are not the first, and definitely not the last.

Been there done that and know what that lounge is like. I just want the access mainly from LAX to FLL which is domestic.

It does seem odd not having lounge access in the situation described, but it was only ~8 years ago or so that Qantas started allowing business class pax into domestic Qantas Clubs - prior to that it was just pax with status and paid members who had access.

... although Qantas (& Ansett) did allow domestic First Class PAX QP (or GW) access.

If you are on a Delta flight as your next connection in LAX I would suggest buying a 30 day Delta Sky Club membership for $90 USD and it is good for you and a guest.
The good news is you'll also get domestic DJ lounge access in Australia should you be on a connecting flight and cover you for all internal flights when you are over there, a good point to note as well is that as long as you are flying that day (even not with Delta) you can use the delta lounge (that is of course you are flying out of a similar terminal and can get past security checkpoint) for $90 I personally think its a fantastic deal if you are taking 3-4 flights works out to be like $10-20 pp per visit. Bargain!
