At Syd t1 at the moment. I thought check in was 3 hours before. Anyway they knocked me back and said only opening 2.5 hours early. Hmmm there goes my lounge and shopping time ! Is this normal. Have not done intl for a while.

Website clearly states int checkin opens 3 hours before.

Hmmm, Qantas lift your game! I would refer the agent to the website, and ask 'please explain'.

Maybe its an enhancement to give you more time with the friends and family before the Flounge seduction begins ;).

I've just taken a look through the QF website, and I can't find a reference to it opening 3hrs before.

From SYD information:
Check-in

Check-in is located on the Departures Level (Level 1) and is open from 4.00am AEST daily.

Economy check-in is available from various counters. Check your flights' counter number on the information screens located throughout the check-in area.

Business, Premium Economy and Qantas Club passenger check-in is available at the northern side of check-in counter D.

First, Platinum, and oneworld Emerald passengers can access the First Class Check-in Suite located at the end of check-in counter D.

The Check in times page states:

Check-in for international Qantas operated services at all Australian international airports (QF001-QF399).

Recommended Check-in
First/Business: 90 minutes
Premium Economy/Economy: 120 minutes

Check-in for international Qantas operated services at non-Australian international airports.Check-in is open between 3 hours and 60 minutes before departure. We recommend that you are checked-in up to 120 minutes before flight departure.

The checkin section for SYD on the QF website indicates there is no specific opening hours other than from early morning:

Where were you flying to??

Flying to NRT (QF21).

Actually I think I'm wrong, I was thinking of boarding time for some reason which is 21:10

Actual flight is at 21:55, so I guess when they opened it at 19:00 they were correct.

I am in QP now, no FL. So eery quiet in here, they just brought out some curry sludge, not sure what it is but smells okay.

Just had a brownie and latte, mmmmm so tasty.

Need to wait an hour before I get into the good stuff ;)

Just found out that QP doesn't "priority tag" anymore on international. When they brought in the enhancements last year, I thought it was just for domestic that they took it away. Oh well, at least I just had a nice bowl of $400 pumpkin soup :)

So QF opening at 1900 would be 3hrs before departure - the coughs!!! QF do get things wrong from time to time, to which they admit. However lets not get on the internet each and everytime for every issue, particularly without checking facts first

Never had priority on International from what i know? Only Business and First.

I always had the pink business tags on any QF flight when I was QP. When I was SG, sometimes they put First on it (yellow) for some reason.

Oh well, their system never worked anyway! Alot of the time my pink tagged bag came out LAST!

Hmmmm ... OLCI and carry-on only does the trick for moi ;) :p

Was going to, but too much tech stuff to take! It was bad enough at xray, they hit the stop button and highlighted my bag. I wonder what they thought was in it

Re no more priority tags... I had this line trotted out the other day on the way to the states (dom check-in prior to internnational flight). They claimed the computer puts it in the right bin.

Which is fine... except if you have a connecting flight on a different airline they look for the bright tag, not some black printed 'priority' dot.

They were using priority tags for international check-in in MEL the other day.

But, if you are using dom->int->int - and any sector is NOT operated by QF, you should insist on a biz tag.

Received the bright yellow First class at MEL (Domestic Connection to International) last month for MEL-xSYD-xLHR-PRG. (Travelling J).

QP always got priority tags on both Dom and Int.

Business and Plat got pink tags, and Int First and Int Plat got First tags.

Can't remember what SG got as I never flew in Australia as an SG.

Unless it's the last sector - other airlines don't seem to care about a QF Priority tag, even the OW affiliates, and agree with above comments, that even with Qantas it's pretty hit and miss.

I'd agree for the most part, but most of my travel involves an ultimate destination in Asia where priority tags actually do work! So connecting via HKG pink or yellow tag is required!

No they didn't...it was domestic only. I still have an old (1997 vintage) QC booklet which states this.

Really?

I always got priority tags on countless QF flights to/from the US when I was QP. (2000-2009).
