Sounds to me like I should host a wine tasting for AFF people in melbourne as for all you in other states well get here and your welcome and if you can fit in to the 335 I I will pick up lol I should get at least 10 in with the top down but no luggage I live in the city so it's a short stager to a lot of hotels lol

Misha I do have a lot of wine and it's a lot of fun going to vineyards around the world to try different wines and buying them but I'm no a wine snob when it comes to wine it's never the cost it's how much you enjoy it and I have had some great wines under 10 dollars then again I have had some great wine The joy of collecting wine is you get to enjoy it with others there would be nothing sader than a wine cellar full of wine at the end of your life.

I first started buying in 1969.The major joy apart from drinking the stuff is picking those wines that will age well.My best value remains the 1969 Tyrell's dry red-the ordinary commercial bottling.Bought at 35 cents a bottle and drank well into the mid 80s.
But 7000 bottles-you will need a bit of help.

Dr Ron since moving back to melbourne from your part of the world I have re built my cellar when I moved to QLD I came with about 2000 and found out fast that wine and heat are a bad combo so I did justice to the 2000 by drinking them over the ten years I do miss Qld it was a lot of fun and a great place for a signal man and working at RBH was a highlight.It would be nice to buy a wine at 35 cents and age it

I'm another WineBase fan, I've been using it for about 15 years and it is a Aussie-made software - the guy who wrote it happily replies to all emails you send him, if you haven't already, check the website: WineBase - Wine Cellar Inventory Software
You can also download a trial version for free. The full version also comes with an integrated copy of the annual Gold book of Australian Wines with their ratings and expected values and you can get that information transferred to your wines that are in the Gold book.

Yes, it doesn't run on Win 7 Pro or Win 7 home premium 64 bit, but happily runs on Win 7 Home premium 32 bit and all older versions of Windows. I found this out after I downgraded from Win 7 Home premium 64-bit to 32-bit after lots of computer problems, and couldn't get it to work on a virtual server on 64-bit previously mentioned by one of the earlier threads. Not sure if it works on Mac or Linux but the web site should specify.

It will take you some time to enter all your wines in unless you only have a dozen or so. You must maintain your obsession and faithfully enter all your new purchases or gifts, and take out your old soldiers and ones you've given away as presents - otherwise it is useless having the cellar database.

It would be great if the writer wrote an app for smartphones that synced with your program installed on your PC/notebook (I've recently asked him to consider it and he is...), then you could carry your cellar around with you when you visit the bottle shops or cellar doors and check what you already have and how much you paid for it, or which vintages you are missing and want to add to your cellar. Also good if you record which wines you gave or drank with which friends so you don't bring the same bad wine around twice, or can bring around another bottle of they previously enjoyed that you gave them (too bad if they weren't being truthful...).

I won't say how many bottles are in my cellar or give an indication of how many FF points my cellar may be equivalent to as it is a bit frightening.
As one previous reply said, my aim should be to make sure there are no bottles left in the cellar when I take my last breath, but I'll be struggling at this rate even if I drank a bottle a day for the next * years (without buying or receiving any more in that time). Thought I better blank out the number of years otherwise you'd figure out the ridiculous number of bottles in my overcrowded cellar.

I shift some wine by joining wine tasting groups and offering tastings from my cellar, so any other AFF members in Perth who want to assist me, PM me and I'll send you details about one of the tasting groups.....now if someone could swap me some of their SCs for some of my wine.....

I've been using Winebanq (Wine cellar software. The ultimate electronic wine cellar database from WineBanq), or more accurately a re-branded version called Home Winemaster, for about 5-6 years now over a number of versions.

It certainly has all the capabilities that you require, an extensive database of predominantly Aus/NZ wineries etc., and peerless support from it's writer.

I initially picked it up via my subscription to Winestate magazine, and it has additional subscription options to Winestate tasting notes.

My collection is more modest - ranging to several hundred - scattered over a number of wine cabinets, and it handles location data well. I've been using Vinote wine tags (available from Wine Tags, Wine Labels, Numbered Wine Tags) which include bar codes. I don't use a barcode reader, but I understand Winebanq can utilise readers well.
