Velocity changes: Changes to status credits

Thanks Velocity rewards, my flights turned up into my account. However I thought you earnt SC's on Skywest flights . Does that need to be fixed as well?

So we'll apologise for some of the confusion around the SC's and "how it works".

The table supplied on the website is a general guide to the number of Status Credits you will earn for each one-way flight.
As a rule, if you have to change aircraft but your flight number doesn't change, it is considered the same flight. If your flight number changes during your journey, even if continuing on the same aircraft, it will be considered 2 flights.

The website is being updated now.

Thanks to those of you who PM'd specific examples, as this has helped the team iron out some of these confusing points.

Thanks for clearing that up. Does that mean that my flexi CBR-BNE ticket via MEL on Sunday should have been credited as 50SC (20+30) rather than just 20?

Assuming the flight numbers are different:

As a rule, if you have to change aircraft but your flight number doesn't change, it is considered the same flight. If your flight number changes during your journey, even if continuing on the same aircraft, it will be considered 2 flights.

Cbr/Mel is 292 miles (Zone 1) and should earn 20 SCs.
Mel/Bne is 857 miles (Zone 2) and should earn 30 SCs.

Velocity Rewards is that correct?

If so a A$229 one way fare would earn 50 SCs or A$4.58 per SC that is:

1) A$2,290 to obtain Gold
2) A$1,832 to maintain Gold.

Nice.....

Good to hear the options are still there to maximise SC's by doing some sneaky routing!

But also fair enough too if you have to stop somewhere when there is no "direct" (ie. non-stop) flight.

Given Gold under the old system was $9000 from red, that just doesn't seem right, does it? Remembering that if all and sundry reach Gold easily, they won't be able to afford to supply the product with all the current perks (and more if the rumours are correct).

I'm currently silver and was resigned to the fact Gold would have been a real stretch, now I'm thinking platinum is within reach .

If we want the benefits to continue (uncrowded lounges, free food/grog, priority check-in and now boarding) we may wish to object to that level of spend to obtain gold.

Welcome to the world of Status Runs / Optimization, where if you have the flexibility to alter your fight date / timing / routing, you do so to obtain the lowest A$/SC earn cost.

I see your point, but I don't think they average flyer will necessarily look for these ways to go for higher status, compared to the likes of those on this forum. While there are quite a few of us, I think out in the general community people are more focussed on points than status credits.

I think it may help to balance out the higher status pax between QF and VA - obviously there are a lot more Gold and Platinum pax with QF than VA, so this will probably even it out, but not necessarily swing it completely the other way. After all, there will be many who still stick with QF despite what the competition may be offering.

All in all though, it's good for those of us who know the benefits of achieving the higher status levels. I think if I take into account all my work flights are with VA (which already have pretty much renewed my gold status match from last year) plus I direct one international trip and a few domestic trips each year to VA (or partners), then Platinum should definitely be achievable. Might even consider dropping QF back to Gold, if the VA Platinum offering is outstanding!

Agree to a certain extent. Really the only ones that will choose to do CBR-BNE via MEL, are us FF Nerds on here, and the average person will just jump on the quickest, most direct route. Also Some people's time is far more important / expensive to do the creative routing bit, and they need to get on, and back off in the quickest possible time. Do the calcs on direct flights, and I think it will come up close to that figure.
Me, My time is not important so my PE Bne-CBR flts will be via MEL every time. If I cant do MEL, it will be via SYD.. Very happy about this, and thankyou to the VA team for working so hard to iron all these little things out, and actually being pro-active in their business. Well done.

What I see is DJ being smart here, opening up a very doable DJ Gold door to QF WPs who do know how to do the SC tier business at the lowest cost and will therefore be able to do both QF WP and DJ Gold. Better for DJ to win a bit of QF WP business than expecting QF WPs to totally go over to DJ.

Very smart folks in the Velocity Rewards team. Well done guys.

I think we have to give praise for the velocity rep and AFF's presence here,
quick response on questions and even updated online on the DJ website already.

I'm sure everyone appreciates it when companies take note of their customers and treat them with well.

Also no hold wait time at all for the velocity call centre twice when I called them today.

Impressive.

Snap! :)

My thoughts exactly!

I hardly look at points, just SCs.........does that make me a FF nerd too? :p

PS.....does this all mean I'm now safe to book my OOL-SYD-MEL-SYD-OOL now, comfortable in the knowledge I'll get each sector SCs?

Yup. Welcome on board. BTW, not a nerd, just a smart FF who knows how the system works.

As for the flights, just be sure each flight has a different flight number, then according to VR, you will earn SCs for each flight sector.

I'd say "book away!"

Maybe the term should be Frequent Fleek? ... Frequent Flyer + Geek :)

I'm in the same boat - everyone at work gives me hell everytime I'm on the AFF site - they think it's all I do! (Little do they know I also frequently visit the VA, Velocity, Qantas, Jetstar, etc, etc sites as well!)

DJ made it official:
How It Works | Velocity Rewards

"The table below is a guide to the Status Credit earn rate for each one-way flight* you take with Virgin Australia^, V Australia, Pacific Blue, Polynesian Blue, Virgin America, Etihad Airways or Malaysia Airlines.

SC earn table

*A flight is a trip with a single flight number. If you have to change aircraft but your flight number doesn't change, it is considered the same flight. If your flight number changes during your journey, even if you continue on the same aircraft, it will be considered two flights."

Way to go DJ / VR AND AFF.............

Very smart business move. They are a forward thinking company. Obviously the Platinum level will be another story, but I think they have taken the good points of the QF system and mashed them into an actual "Loyalty" program that works both ways. I think they may need some more priority counters soon though:)

!!

I'm seriously considering flying around in circles for a while just so i can get my hands on gold membership. When I go overseas this year, wouldn't mind the lounge access for me and my mate, and other extra benefits and the opportunity (however small it is) of getting a bump up to J!

And it's sad that I wouldn't even mind wasting time flying around for no reason .. because I love flying and VA makes the whole experiences even better. ;)

Good to hear guys!

For domestic flights the old adage "why go direct when you can connect" now applies... Looks like I will be doing lots of CBR-SYD-MEL vv rather than CBR-MEL :)

Hi

Interesting that I flew Abx-Syd-Mel this week and looked at the statement tonight with 10SC?? this has to be an error right?? Should be 20SC.

I spoke to Velo in KL and explained my plight, was told that it was because it was the same ticket.. Confused..

BTW would have REXed it but needed to drop off an envelope in SYD lol! was cheap still..

Cheers

Pog
