A simple poll. I feel its time to rid the J lounges of the riff raff. OWE or no entry (with normal guesting rights). A J ticket should not allow default J Lounge access.

Here we go QF - here's an enhancement that would actually benefit your most frequent flyers....

As one of the so called "riff raff" as a mere SG, why should I be treated any different if I pay 8k for a ticket out of my own pocket, compared to someone who is a OWE off the back of company funded travel?

Well what your suggesting is defeating the point of so call "J Lounge" with the "J ticket".

Would that then require a name change to the Emerald Lounge?

Some pax who fly Business would regard OWE as the riff raff....

So I would be guessing you had a less than pleasant stay in the J lounge recently?

I would actually be more inclined to suggest the opposite, but that probably wouldn't go down well here :)

I presume you're only referring to the DOM lounges, as otherwise you'd be creating a bizarre precedent.

Firstly, I don't ever see this happening; and secondly, with all due respect, I don't agree. I don't see how removing J pax who have paid for J tickets helps the situation of overcrowding or reducing OWE amenity any. In fact, access to the J lounge is not even a OWE benefit, just one that QF grants at its discretion.

Rather than trying to remove people who are entitled to be in the lounge the more logical step, like it or not (and I don't like it), is to further restrict or even remove guests. Up to 2/3 of the lounge could potentially be made up of guests who may or may not be flying, and aren't otherwise contributing to QF's coffers in a meaningful way - there's your free kick right there. As has been mentioned ad nauseum elsewhere, if guest access was limited to a certain number of passes per year (based on status), then use of guest access would be dependent on the member's discretion, more flexible and require them to make a call on when they could best use it; and regular overcrowding would decrease substantially.

Seems like there's a lot of focus on reducing benefits without a proper analysis of what (if any) impact such removal would have, and whether the objectives of changing benefits would be met in other, more effective ways.

As someone else suggested this has to be more of a windup than a practical question. IMHO it is one of the silliest things I have ever seen on AFF.

Sounds a bit like the situation in the US. Flying first class yet no automatic lounge access.

Boom Boom!

Where are you Russ?

I say keep Business class passengers out of our Platinum lounges. After all Qantas built them for Platinums nor for business class passengers. In fact business class passengers were only after an thought.

I suspect on most days there are far more WPs in the Business Lounge flying Y, then people paying J

munitalP, this is a terrific idea! I voted yes, but the lounge would need a few changes to make cheapskate WPs feel at home:

  1. Every lounge seat would be 1/3 smaller and face the wall so they could all pretend they had a bulkhead seat
  2. Additional seats would be in a stairwell marked "exit row"
  3. WPs could log on a to try for a lounge seat allocation at T-80, T-79, T-78, etc.
  4. There would only be two toilets, somewhere way down the back
  5. The meals would appear from near the toilets (yuk!)
  6. You won't be able to physically stand up after your meal until your plate has been collected by the lounge staff. This would take up to an hour.
  7. When it's time to depart the lounge, you'd need to stand up and wait with your head at a crooked angle for 15 minutes before moving
