I am hopeless at working out this Status Credit thing, so perhaps somebody can help me.

I’m currently SG with a renewal date of 30 June 2011. I have 180 SC’s at present, so need a further 420 to get gold again.

I have the following trips booked – will this be enough?

Qantas

All flights are from Melbourne and in economy unless otherwise stated.

November – Sydney return x 3
February – Perth return x 1, Sydney return x 1
March – Sydney return x 1

Finnair

June – Melb to Geneva (one way), then London to Sydney (one way) both flights in Business Class.

Help!!

Christina :)

Economy or discount economy - big difference!

Discount economy for domestic. I think I currently get 10 SCs each way for Sydney and 20 SCs for Perth.

And whats the routing for your flights, changing flight numbers or having a stopover adds SCs for little cost.

Assuming the Finnair flights are on one world metal, I would have thought there would be sufficient SC's from that.

Your Business flights should be enough to push you over the edge without effort:

MEL-SIN-HEL-GVA (assumed routing), all in Business and all flown with oneworld carriers, followed by LHR-HEL-SIN-MEL is well within 600 - 700 SCs by itself.

No problems requalifying for SG!

Yes, that is the routing for the Europe trip, but with SYD as the final destination on the way home, not MEL.

So that trip alone is enough? Great!

Thanks everyone for your input. Is there anywhere I can see what SCs trips on OneWorld carriers give? Or is it the same as Qantas.

In general, travel in Business or First will give the same number of status credits as QF - just check the distance & zone. There are few - if any - exceptions (and I'll leave others to point them out here). To check distance, use Great Circle Mapper, available at Great Circle Mapper.

To make sure that you do get status credits on oneworld flights, you need to make sure that they are operated by oneworld aircraft. A flight operated by a non-oneworld aircraft may yield you only points (but no status credits), or nothing at all, even if your ticket was bought/marketed through a oneworld airline. This includes JQ, so you need to check carefully!

With Economy flights, you'll need to check whether your flight is in discount or full Economy (generally, premium Economy classes (like BA WT+) are regarded as full Economy), then look up the relevant entry in the status credit earn table.

There used to be a useful mileage tool called Mileage Monkey which could calculate QF SCs for you and more, but the website appears to be down.
