The *hugely* ironic part is that Vanessa actually wrote that song for a friend who committed suicide.

I still liked the song :)

...and the song makes much more sense if you go back to the original lyrics.

To really dredge the old timers.

'You Belong To Me' - Jo Stafford (and I think Patsy Cline also had a version)

'Traveln' Man' - Ricky Nelson. Assuming he did at least some of the traveln' by plane :D

Though not strictly flying related, for those of you who spend too much time in the QP enjoying the bar.......

'Comfortably Numb' - Pink Floyd ;)

As a point of information, Ricky and his entire band were all killed when the DC3 they were flying in from gig to gig crashed during servere turbulance back in the eighties (if memory serves me right).

Cheers Dee

Yes I had forgotten about that. I also failed to remember that Patsy Cline was killed in a plane crash in the early 1960's.

IIRC Jo Stafford passed away of natural causes in about 2008.

If we’re going to include artists that have died or otherwise been in air crashes, I’d recommend Aaliyah, though I doubt any of her songs were about air travel

Home - Michael Buble!

That was one of our bridal waltz songs at our wedding. Only my close family and friends understood the meaning of that song for us.

It's still on my regular playlist as a song I listen to when I'm feeling a little homesick.

I have one that wife and I love from way back, it's a Little River Band song written by Glen Shorock(?) called " Cool Change", one which John Blackman agreed with me that was the best L.R.B. track of all time. Blackman and I met a few times at the Novotel Twin Waters "Jack Newton Classics', back a few years when I had the money to be a sponser................

Cheers Dee

More useless trivia (I know far too much about useless things...) Michael Bublé actually wrote 'Home' when he was in Melbourne one tour:)

Fly Away -- The Living End
Changing Pilots -- Departure (double points for both song and band name)
Aeroplane -- Bjork
Big Jet Plane -- Primal Scream
Helicopter -- The Bloc Party
Vapour Trail -- Ride

Pigs on the Wing - Pink Floyd
The great gig in the sky - Pink Floyd
Paper Aeroplane - KT Tunstall
Given to fly - Pearl Jam
Last Stop; This Town- The Eels

Slightly OT, but relevant;

No one knows I'm gone - Tom Waits
Whereabouts Unknown - Rise Against
Scenario:
Daughter rings from school; "Hi Dad, can you pick me up this afternoon?"
Me; "Ah, no, I'm in Bangkok."
Daughter; Oh, Ok, bye." :-|

...and one we don't want to listen to.....

It's coming down..... Cake....

Here's a few more for the playlist.
Typically Tropical - Barbados
Vengaboys - Going To Ibiza
Elton John - Daniel
Marc Cohn - Walkin In Memphis
Kim Wilde - Cambodia
Mike Nesmith - Rio

Did some more digging through my music collection and found another 2 tracks about air travel I'd missed
"Weird Al" Yankovic - Airline Amy
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Travelin' Band

Also, where's Cheesy? Wasn't he going to compile the list in the second post in the thread and keep the list up to date?

I'm still here, but have been quite busy with work and travel recently ... and by recently I mean the whole year - so much so that I've finally cracked QF Gold in the last week.

I did keep tabs on the thread trying to categorise all the songs that were listed originally, so I'll add the new ones that have been posted this month and hopefully come up with something in the wee hours of the morning whilst watching the World Cup. I certainly don't like having unfinished projects so rest assured it will get done ... timing is the key! :p
