New Layout (bugs)

Perhaps notzac can confirm this issue for me, but on my mac, if I'm using Safari and click the "double arrow - last post" button (
lastpost-right.png
) when logged out, I head straight to the post, but when logged in I end up at the top of the thread. In Firefox, there's no issue... so it's a Webkit issue?

It doesn't work for me irrespective of whether I'm logged in or not.

I notice that I now have to log in each when I open the page whereas in the previous version if you did not log out you remained logged in.

There is a considerable gap from the top of the page to the start of each new post, but it may just be teething problems.

Edit: and this one doesn't have the gap, so must have fixed it (insert smiley because I could not find them)

Edit No 2: Just realised why I have to log in each time I open the page... the advertisement on the opening page covers the box to tick to 'remember me' etc.

There are discussions about this issue on the vBSEO forum, which according to the AFF footer is installed here.

See "Go to first new post" links not working - vBulletin SEO Forums

I am finding that threads with attachments can be hard to click the last page from the index page. "The Scavenger" thread has the attachment icon over the last page number and I cannot click without opening up the list of attachments.

I have noticed that I have got the mediaone networks video advert reappearing in the top right of the screen. Don't think that was there earlier today.

Had that *** acvs.mediaonenetworks.net streaming video ever since the new software was live: Its really SLOOOOWS down my slow internet connection to the speed the of a slow tortise. Think I have killed it by adding to Addblock on Firefox. Taken several hours to solve this. Hope ADMIN kills it for all.

Regarding getting to the latest post in a thread, it seems the link before I click and when I click is:

http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/community/playground/new-layout-bugs-22147-3.html#post307588

But then it redirects and eventually just loads:

http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/community/playground/new-layout-bugs-22147.html

Seemingly losing 2 crucial bits of information, not sure why, and it might all be related to vBSEO as stated above, but I’m not sure.

Edit: I figure this might be due to my decision to view 40 posts per page instead of the forum default which is about 10?

Just made the mistake of accidentally selecting mobile mode while on my PC (mainly to see how it looks). However, the PC Mode link at the top of the screen doesn't work and switch me back to that style.

How is the change in style applied? Is it done using a cookie or some other form of preference?

Works okay for me with FF (latest version) and AdBlock Plus seems to stop any annoying Flash ads.

What I really dislike is the coughpy grey font colour for the thread titles. It may be my eyes but I'm finding it hard to read now. Is there the option (as on other boards) to select different board themes? I've done that elsewhere if I haven't been able to read the text properly or just plain haven't liked the colours:rolleyes:.

No I'm not visually impaired, I am reaching the age where I will probably need glasses soon but I can read all this fine.

Just realised that when you edit and ask for help it does not go in a new post at the bottom of the thread, so when you sign in how do you click the box to remember your details for next time you open the page. When I open the page there is a google ad that blocks the box to click and does not allow me to do it?

New posts feature seemed to be limited to 100 threads with "Results 1 to 20 of 100".

Last time I accessed the site I had 204 unread threads - never going to know what they were unless this is extended.

EDIT: Actually it's 234 - but it's very painstaking to discern this number.

Also, when I click a link from the new posts it does not work correctly - taking me to the top of a page which has a first post later than the actual previous unread post.

I agree with your comments and hope each user is given the option of enhancing the background colour and font to suit that individual.

Here is a small part of my list

  • Reply to Thread only appears at the top of the page
  • Clicking on New posts only shows the last 5 pages ie. 100 threads (I had well over 200 unread threads which are now lost)
  • Clicking on New Posts the page simply looks too cluttered as all the useless information is almost the same size as the important information
  • Clicking on New Posts and then reading the threads does not change the bold font of the thread for threads just read. Makes it extrememly difficult to work out what threads have been read and which have not been read unless one constantly clicks on New Posts
  • Not all threads inform if I have posted in the thread or not
  • Clicking on a thread with new posts does not take me to the first new post. I have to read the whole page again to work out what is new
  • When clicking submit reply to a thread I am taken back to the top of the page and not my post
  • The default font appears to be Tahoma which is extremely hard to read. Any chance of returning the default to Verdana?
IE6 makes a bit of a hash of the whole page !!
The formatting is totally wrong and each post has a gap of about 10 blank lines before the actual post.

The last post with the problem was from June 2009 though, and the thread was started in 2006. I’d have thought that the issue might be fixed by now.
The new version of the software feels like a beta version. I can see why they wanted everyone off loder versions of the software.

Gone now, for me, and everything is much snappier now :)

Reply to the Thread is at the bottom for me.

I have no real complaints. I just want to take an opportunity in the middle of these "requests" To thank admin for all the hard work he and the moderators put into this.

I also think we should be patient (I am not saying anyone isn't) as this is not his job. And I am sure he has other commitments.

A Big Cheers! To admin and the moderators for all they do!

I'll second that sentiment.

After a couple of days of use I am comfortable with the new look. The small changes have not made the site any less useful and the information we gain and share is still there.
