A pretty safe bet QF1 and QF2 will be the flight numbers for Sydney - London nonstop.

The existing A380 service via Singapore is being re-numbered to QF5/6 from 31 October 2027.

Whenever someone mentions QF5, I think of FRA. *sigh*

Correct, 31/32 was the original SYD-SIN-LHR

But likely they won't use it due to the previous issue with 32
When QF31 was introduced in 2000* it flew SYD-xMEL-xSIN-LHR, departing MEL at 01:40, arrving LHR in the early afternoon. I often flew the SYD-MEL leg, departing 22:00.

* Note QF31/QF32 were not on regular timetables in the years immediately before then.

That ceased earlier than that; those flight numbers were assigned to flights operating the SYD/KUL route as late as 1996 but discontinued with Qantas selling BA flights 33/34 on the route.

Maybe we need a separate thread dedicated to the history of QF flight numbers!

The 1993 timetable shows QF 31 as MEL-SYD-KUL-SIN departing MEL @ 0640 and arriving into SIN @ 1830. Then back SIN-KUL-SYD-MEL.

Meanwhile QF5 did SYD-SIN-BKK-FRA on Mon/Sat, SYD-SIN-BKK-FRA-CDG on Tue/Thu/Sun and SYD-SIN-BKK-FCO on Wed/Fri. A different world back then,

A KUL service three days a week flown as QF31 / QF32 is listed on a winter 1996 timetable , but not on other intervening timetables I have until the SIN service appears in 2000.
