The ‘long walk’ at Melbourne Airport - Pickup/Dropoff

This new system will fix the issue of traffic and/or pax being delayed due to the pedestrian crossings that existed on both levels outside T1 and T3. At lease pax do not intermingle with traffic on these levels anymore. Maybe they still do on the L2 and L3 drop off and pick up zones but yet to experience that layout.

With UBER still keeping its existing PU zones right outside the terminals, I guess there is even more incentive to use them rather than Didi where, I guess, you have to find your car in the P/UP zone - or is there still an area in the old P/UP area on the ground level for other ride share pickups as well as off airport parking and hotel vans?

I hope that the 1-2 min time limit for pickup is actually enforced
15min for piclup

1 min for drop off. Just like any drop off there will be attendants shooing cars away after dropping off
A massive fail by Melbourne Airport by not putting in travelators.
I don't understand why.
Westfield shopping centres don't have travelators and I reckon it is easy to walk a few km without counting. Similarly with the big shopping malls in the US with the mega car parks. I don't think it is an issue. Then try the mega hub airports like Changi and Dubai etc. even though travellers exist there is a lot of walking.

If luggage is the issue, there will be luggage carts.

People with disabilities /accessibility issues are or should be catered for.

Hopefully they'll immediately tow any car that is left by the driver at these new areas.
Not sure about drop off (although most people don't hang around). For pick up, according to someone that went there today, its now similar to Sydney and needs ticket/ card tap for the entry/exit of the carpark with a free period.

Will be interesting to see how this all pans out @elanshin
As you indicate, drop off not an issue with 5 minutes.

Have heard a "whisper" that a $5 charge will be applied at a later stage.
Methinks this is more likely for pick ups.
They have extended the Mercer Drive wait zone from 20 minutes to 60.
Only time will tell.

Quote on radio this morning indicated was "280 metres" from the new area to "Qantas".

A rough look via GE Pro (acknowledging old layout & that the bridges etc will change)

To QF check-in from the near side of the drop-off area. 290m

Possible longest rout to Jetstar check in (I'm not actually certain where that is ) ~460m

And that's what I had a firm feeling the scam was going to be all along. Make a new area so that it can be charged to pick up from the airport for anybody without any real alternative being available any time soon.

Frequent travellers - Is it faster?

With no new kerbside drop off, it’s a change to my well oiled machine of minimal time from CBD to lounge.

I’m wondering if it’s net better…?
- is it faster to get out of the car from the exit ramp from the Tulla?
- how many minutes from drop off to security for VA, QF, int?
- any changes to arrival locations?
