Admittedly this gem was via ChatGPT rather than my own noggin' -:

An entomologist studies how insects colonise a body.

An etymologist studies how words colonise a language.

Both deal in evolution.
Both track timelines.
Both look for tiny details others miss.

One examines larvae.
The other examines lexemes.

And in a pinch, the etymologist can at least explain why the detective keeps calling them the wrong thing.

Agree, soon after leaving home and fending for myself I went into the butcher, looked around and asked for some "mi-nute" steak. Didn't know why he was laughing, minute steak was on the sign.
