Australian Dual Citizens Entering UK after February

So it has been a couple of days and others may not be willing to take the same risk as I did, but will post based on my experience. Reading the UK web sites I am a British Citizen based on the heredity rules, however this was my experience:
  • Travelled to the UK on 26/2, the ETA was issued prior to rule enforcement .
  • OLCI just worked and I had saved the BPs to my phone (just in case).
  • I showed up at the airport to have my PP scanned, the only question I was asked, do you have a British PP. I answered ‘No’ as this is correct.
  • Paper BP issued.
  • Arrived in DXB and no issue with onward travel, allowed to board.
  • Arrival in the UK just went through the line that allows UK + agreed countries, (AU, US, NZ, JP, KR etc.) without question and just let through.
  • This was posted whilst in the UK after arrival.

Thanks for sharing !!

Good news!

Wonder if there was something on your profile that made them ask "do you have a British passport?" or if that's now the standard question they're asking everyone!?

This is thrilling reading!

Like the Great Escape when James Coburn’s character gets over the Alps and meets the friendly partisan - and freedom!

I seriously doubt there is anything on my profile. Some check in agents are just contracted staff and would guess that they only asked the question as it was on their script. I would be confident that if my profile suggested I was a duel citizen further questions would have been asked or I would have been denied boarding.

I think that’s right.

The only way you’d be denied boarding is if your ETA was cancelled.

And the only way that would happen is if you somehow indicated you were British.

I would not be sweating this. Turn up with your AU passport and valid ETA
Agreed.

On this front was a story of an 80yo on the news. Born in Australia and has travelled to UK multiple times on Aus passport. UK I'm sure has zero idea he is a potential citizen.

Had been given advice that he needed to apply for British Passport... And was was doing so.

Presumably also impacta multiple other family members who now become eligible.

if your on a separate booking?
Then not likely an issue.

All paxmon the one booking are generally required to check in together, as Princess Fiona points out.

Separate bookings the likely thing to connect pax will be seating. But I don’t see that as a major problem. And there can be all sorts of reasons why people are on separate bookings.

But it looks like even that’s not going to be necessary given the data points above. Pax can truthfully answer they don’t have a UK passport, and it seems that’s good to go.
