I am flying Shanghai to Sydney via HK (Shanghai to HK on Hong Kong Airlines and HK to Sydney on Qantas). It is all booked on a single ticket. My ticket says 30kg baggage allowance for each leg. I am a Platinum FF member. Does this mean that I will receive 50kg baggage allowance for the entire journey (30kg on ticket + 20kg as Platinum FF)? Or does the 50kg only apply to the Qantas leg? Hong Kong Airlines are not part of Oneworld.

Also, would I need to pick up my luggage in HK given Hong Kong Airlines is not Oneworld?

Have contacted both Qantas and Hong Kong Airlines, and neither seem to know the answer…

Thanks in advance!

While I can’t answer the question, one clarification that might be useful to those who can … when you say “single ticket” does that mean the HK Airlines leg has a QF flight-number on the ticket you have?

I kinda suspect that if neither HK Airlines nor Qantas have been able to answer the question over the ‘phone, then it might cause you a lot of hassle at baggage check-in regardless of what the answer is. ‘Cos the check-in people aren’t likely to know a lot more than Customer Service, and you might be up for an annoying argument which you mightn’t need to pay for in the end but which is pretty stressful at the time.
Not to mention the fact that lugging over 30kg of luggage around per-person is a royal pain in the posterior ... :)

Both legs were booked in a single booking. HK Airlines leg does not have a QF flight number.
