Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Using my CD credit, I decided upon the Leonay Riesling (and not because the grandkids live in Leonay), I've had it before and enjoyed it. I also took up the bonus offer of 6 Panfolds Koonunga Hill Seventy Six for $75. At that price it was a no brainer.

I had the best wine ive had in my life at the dubai lounge it was a 2005 pauilliac,

Are either of these amazing?
No idea, haven't tried them before. I think it is worth of what it is, it is close to mid-low end grand cru if classicified by the rrp. My friend said, 17 is a normal year. I don't mind at all, I tried some matured 2011, it is still good to me. To the price it is almost 1/3 of or rrp (TWE sells 6 pk at $960).

Excellent, willing to take the risk, will get my friend to get some next time!

Yup, probably being marked down because 2017 was an ordinary year in Bordeaux. But I'd but grabbing lots of Batailley at that price (and I think Batailley 2017 is reasonably well rated, although I haven't tried it myself).

JD #1169 is Thompson Estate Chardonnay. I had their earlier vintages and with exception of 2023, all were very good. Any feedback re 2024 MR vintage for Chardonnays?

The 2024 Thompson Estate chardonnay was recently on Qantas Wines as a wine offered when you bought ~24000 bonus points and I puchased a dozen. Came to ~$534 before discounts and vouchers, so $44.50 a bottle before the value of the points etc were deducted. Once the value of points (at 1cpp) and discounts was factored in, I reckon I paid about $12 a bottle.

Having had a couple of bottles, it's pretty ordinary in its 2024 guise and I'd probably have said it's worth maybe $20-$25 a bottle. How much is JD charging if you don't mind me asking?

They are charging $20. Previously I bought 2020, 2022 and 2023. Both 2020 and 2022 were very good, particularly 2020.
2023 was a let down. A bit coarse and overacidic for my liking. So I was hoping that 2024 would be an improvement. Alas - evidently it is not.

PS - was there a further discount at QANTAS wine? As if you deduct $240 for points value - it works out $24.50 a bottle.

Yes - 10% off for PCP, a $50 voucher, triple points and 1000 green tier points (for 2x 6-packs). All up, it yielded 28,875 points for $430.60.

FWIW, I think $20 a bottle is a fair value. It's not a bad chardonnay, but for its RRP (or even ordinary discounted price of ~$40), you can do better.

Scratching my head here. I have discovered a Bannockburn Chardonnay 2021. I VERY rarely order white (I very rarely drink white too!). It's not a TWE winery. It's not in my alcohol spreadsheet (unexpected). Any thoughts on how I might have obtained this? I'd guess a mystery box, but I only recall TWE and Tomich (bleurgh) orders that may have had whites. Orrrr... I do recall once a mate gave me a white which surprised me as I thought he knew I only drink red. lol. Thanks!

I think it is privately owned. And can't be Tomich as there are no possible connections so maybe a gift or a secret Santa?

This was BWS clearance stock recently. Did you get it from there?

Lucky - it's a nice chardy to the extent there can be such a thing.
I hear what you're saying! Not off-putting, but not a red either.

Nah, definitely not BWS. I honestly don't buy whites by choice. lol.

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I think it was a gift I forgot to add to the spreadsheet.
If anyone's curious, I keep my own spreadsheet on Google Sheets to track what I bought, and what I thought of it. Headings are:
WINERY, WINE TYPE, Name, Vintage, Region, State, Tasting Notes Link, Drink Window, Country, Year Bought, Year Drunk, Price Paid, RRP, Purchased From, Rating, Finished?, # Left, Notes
(Rating being my rating out of 10)
