How does Accor treat you as an Elite guest?

Looking to book the Sofitel Wentworth, Sydney. Classic and luxury rooms are described as having 'Bath'. Superior room described as 'bath/shower combination'. Detailed descriptions of all are the same including 'flexible shower head').

So I called to ask what those meant. After a while, the agent decided that the first 2 have a bath only while the bath/shower combo meant it had a bath and a walk-in shower. I mentioned that I hadn't heard of an Australian hotel room without a shower in many years, but the agent was unmoved.

Got a stay at Sofitel Wentworth Sydney coming up. Got a 'pre-check-in questionnaire'. Has pre-filled most of my details but wants ( * ) my DoB and Postal Address. A bit bored, I called them and asked why - its in my Accor profile.

"We can't see your Accor profile, only status"
"The additional information is just something we like to collect - it makes check-in smoother.

Bollocks it does - never been asked for that info anywhere else. Just a data gathering exercise. Anyway I gave my address as 1234 Green and DoB of a day last week and it seemed happy with that. Next screen - ah! The room up-sell; of course.

So I got a call today. Ah! Some follow-up. Not exactly. Someone looking at my requests put in the booking - quiet room, away from elevators & street noise; walk-in shower preferred.

Désolé ! Room booked Superior only shower over bath. I asked: Maybe an upgrade room might have one (hint...) . Désolé ! Only ones with walk in shower and away from lifts and street noise are the suites. Me: silent ... Keep silent ... Eventually she twigs. Oh, I see you are a Platinum but we should only upgrade one category but in this case we can do a suite.

Job done.

think it's coincidentally your 50th, 60th or 70th birthday on the date of your stay, no?

Would you believe 21st? 🥳
