The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

I believe its end of the month of joining.
Mine was Jul 1997, so its Jul each year that my SC goes into the never never, except for LTS (silver) in my case.
About half way there, 3500 I think I am on, yeah, I know, its not much.

For CR booking (non OWA) can i just book as much as I want as long as I don't return to my origin city?

Aka if i start in MEL, i can go back from overseas to Syd for example and continue other bookings. But if I go to MEL I can't add anymore segments.

Asking because I have a dummy before the CR devaluation that I can tack on a lot of flights to.

From the FF terms and conditions:

14.2.6 A Classic Flight Reward Itinerary must contain no more than one departure from the city or country of first departure on that Itinerary.

It applies equally to ‘regular’ as well as OWA.

Hi hive mind, a question about QF lounge access in JNB. I’ve tried searching the interwebs and the forum and still not able to find the answer. And I’ve posted in lounge access thread, so sorry for cross posting, but really want to get advice from those who regularly fly out of JNB on QF.

We are flying out of JNB home to CBR in April. Will be J on QF, and hold WP/OWE status. It looks like QF uses Terminal B which is largely domestic? So what are the lounge options as we will have quite a long transit between our arrival from Vic Falls at around 1340 in Terminal A before connecting to the QF flight home at 1845.

Which lounge does QF usually use, and are there other (better) One World lounges we could try? I’m especially interested in the ability to get a shower. Thanks!

Sorry hit post by accident - was meaning to say, thanks for that link, we had already found that page but it's a bit lacking in details.

It seems there might be 2 BA lounges - 1 in each terminal. This dosn't explain whether it's the BA lounge in Terminal A or Terminal B. You might assume Terminal B but 🤷‍♀️. Mr Seat 0A call QF to enquire and the person on the other end did not even know which lounge could be used before QF64, let alone if there were showers.

Also wondering if you can move between Terminal B and Terminal A airside after you have checked in and done security etc.

An earlier post from @Mattg seemed to suggest that more recently, QF is using the Aspire lounge before QF 64.

Sorry for the dumb questions. I really thought I had a handle on this, but the more I try to nail the details down, the more I realise there are gaping holes in my knowledge.

Does anyone have recent experience in JNB who could help me out?

Think @bPeteb might be able to assist @Seat0B - he did a TR in that direction recently

Was directed to the BA lounge last year late 2024. Pics etc: Sorry, can't help re showers.

Hi all,

I know there have been some changes to INT-DOM transfers in SYD recently. What’s the latest set up? Is there still an airside transfer after bag drop in SYD?

I only ask because I have a super tight TK-QF transfer on separate tickets and am hoping not to waste any time once I arrive in SYD. Should I just take the train?

I did I-D late last week. No changes.

1. Clear customs and immigration.
2. Walk to the transfer desk and drop bags if required.
3. Clear domestic security.
4. Ride airside transfer bus to D.

Our flight parked at a remote bay at peak hour.

Even allowing for that and ~15min line up at Immigration, we were in the D terminal within 45 mins.

Should I just take the train?
If you want to take longer, sure. There is a lot more walking to get on the train at international, and more particularly after you get off at the domestic station.

But in any case a “super tight transfer” at SYD sounds like a recipe for tears. How tight is “super tight”?

The Turkish flight lands around 7pm… doesnt leave much room for onward connections if the first one is missed.

Thank you all for your replies so far. I really appreciate all the answers. I’m connecting onto 749 to ADL tonight (Dep 2055). I’m in J and HLO on TK - in fact, as we speak, flying over the Java Sea.

TK have done really well to depart both IST and KUL on time as this flight often has rolling delays.

I am fully cognisant of all the risks and have a back up flight tomorrow should the TK flight is delayed. I’m also prepared to stay over night at the Rydges as well if needed.

I deliberately chose this as I would rather sleep in my own bed and give my kids a kiss and hug tonight after being away for work if possible!!
