General Medical issues thread

Yes everything else other than platelets and red cells has a long shelf life. 👍

Well done @prozac. There is no doubt whatsoever you have certainly saved and improved a few lives - that's the "bank" interest rate if you like.

....

Post donation catering rivals or is better than a certain full service domestic airline Y offering.
Some donation centres have party pies, party saugage rolls and milkshakes
Ive heard them doing Pizzas from time to time
There are also gluten free options
Mrs Mac goodies
Biscuits, cheese, crackers
Popper drinks
Springhill Farms slices

Also the Red Cross has a frequent flyer program 🤣
You get a little gift after every 3rd donation.
I’m a regular donor of platelets. The only downside is it takes 80 minutes to be drained and refilled. Always feel my contribution is greatly appreciated-on the day and in the follow-up communication. I love hearing where my donations have been used.

I remember at uni we loved our blood donation outings. A group of us happily head off for our bleed then gorge on the milkshake and goodies later.

Maybe I've received some. :)
@Quickstatus what would make me feel so rotten after an infusion? Ended up in so much discomfort / pain Friday night after the infusion and did nothing all weekend because of headaches that panadol would not fix.

Have been recovering from the broken elbow. Most of the pain is gone, still getting some pain spikes and strained muscles in the area, likely from having little to weight on that arm for close to 3 months. Have been having physio every 2 weeks since the start of Dec. Workers comp approved 8 sessions, had the 3rd this week.
On reduced hours at work. 3/5 days still on reduced hours (5 hours down from 8.5 for 2 days, another day off down from 6). Last GP visit increased weight limit up to 10kg and returned the other 2 days back to the normal hours for those days.

Got a text message today that the appointment with the urologist for the end of the month after the procedure last Aug got moved (they've called in a number of surgeons for a all day cancer case), after I had gotten flights rebooked and hotel sorted out to be in Sydney the day before my overseas holiday. 😓 Now I need to work out something to do in Sydney on Fri 30 PM/Sat 31 until they let me check in for QF75.
Hopefully the next GP visit doesn't return Friday shifts and the tentative rebooked date is still free.

A couple of travel insurance questions;
1. If your credit card has a good overseas travel insurance cover is it offered only on the basis you do not have any reportable conditions, or is it possible to add-in conditions and receive a quote for the difference?
2. If booking redemption travel I gather you'd satisfy a minimum spend condition ($500) by paying the ticketing costs (fuel surcharges, etc) with the said card?

Depends on the card and specific T&C but

1. Yes and yes, but they are now very strict on pre-existing conditions. Most cases they will refuse so best to take out separate medical TI.
2. Depends on card, some $500, some book outgoing and return flights on card.

So in summary, read the T&C and call the company if in doubt.

I have used these several times over the years.

1. They have the usual standard list of pre-existing conditions that will be covered and a process to declare others for a fee. The process has changed over time. One used to have to ring up and be interviewed over the phone. It’s now usually on line. They will then give you a quote (often nominal for most people). Double check in their PDS.

2. Generally yes. But as always check their Product Disclosure Statement to be sure
