QF Platinum Recognition on flights

I actually did not disparage the "service standard". Rather I'm asking why people feel the need to be greeted. Different..

However now that you brought up the "service standard". ..If a greeting is a required service standard, it would be IMO difficult to tell if it is sincere or not. Id rather a greeting that was not "required" - these are likely more genuine
Not uncommonly you make a relatively simple concept very complicated. Doesn’t need analysis or justification or parsing. We are just recounting our experience with, having status on Qantas, whether or not they go out of their way to recognise it.

On the return had a lovely chat with the CSM, was an A330 so thinking the extra space made it a bit easier to make her way around the cabin.
Good point. These flights, and some DOM flights, are short so CSMs may be too busy. In Y I often see the CSM on the cart.

I got greetings from CX EVERY single time
This is very true IME (when I used to fly CX a lot, pre-CoVID, not flown CX post CoVID, so can't comment). I also got upgraded 4/5 times flying CX from Y to PE, especially on the HKG-IND-HKG sectors, which usually have overbooked Y and status pax got bumped up.

Recently flew AKL to HKG on CX in Y. I was greeted and asked to order meal (both) before take off. Even able to get Cathay Delight as my choice of beverage. And my meal was served before everyone (even before special meals). On HKG to MEL, also Y but QF, the service manager came and greet me before meal service and was offered water. Checked in with me again before landing and handed me an Express card for arrival (biosecurity)

In my experience those express arrival cards achieve nothing.

There’s either no queue to be expressed from, or a massive queue and no express queue. YMMV
Agreed. I didn't think there was still an express queue concept inbound to SYD or MEL?

MEL had something or other in Jan 2025. I think access might have been via class of travel plus APEC card holders.
The express lane is near carousel 1 in MEL. You essentially get to use the crew lane. The queue was minimal when I used it but still nice to have (saved like 5 mins).

TBH that’s one thing that really annoys me on QF flights. I’ve got a fairly basic eastern euro name that everyone in the world seems to have no issue pronouncing (including QFs offshore call centres), but their cabin crew can’t seem to get it through their head. Rather than simply switching to “sir” or using my first name, I either get a boarder line racist “I’m not even attempting that” or a good 60 seconds of looking at the iPad.

I find all these greetings to just be awkward and unneeded. They’d be better off putting their effort into accelerating the painfully slow service.
100% this! Exactly the same with my surname relatively straightforward to sound out but the long pauses and sighs whilst tapping their iPad is super awkward and makes me feel like other passengers are wondering what the heck is going on. Just call me Sir or by my first name!

That's very interesting and I can relate to it, sort of. My mother had a Central Europe surname (fairly unpronounceable), but my father had a good old Irish surname. It's also interesting, that my son and daughter both married people with common Irish surnames.

Correct. I used it yesterday and only had 3 staff in front of me.
SYD the same except last return was in between an EK crew.
BNE lane is on the left hand side after bag carra.

Had a fun galley chat to the CSM on a AKL-bound flight today. He commented that aside from literally one passenger, and staff travellers, everybody in the cabin was either Plat or P1. I can forgive them for not doing at seat greetings on this one. 😂

and there’s a thing, on some routes the J cabin (and certainly F) will be riddled with upgrades and staff. Guess who gets first dibs on upgrades? CL, P1, WP etc.

TBH, the personal recognition is more useful down the back. PJs if in PE, a glass of bubbles / wine or three in whY etc.

Maybe end of year DSC runners😁
I just did my last one for the year BNE>MEL>HKG return in J to retain P1 for another year:)

On top of Mrs Nut rightfully calling me a flog, the best WP recognition happened a couple of years ago. I was left stranded in the AKL QF cupboard (RIP) after my flight to BNE was delayed three hours. Take off eventually occured and the Pursuer later introduced himself apologising for the late departure. He bumped to J and advised the late departure meant I may not meet my connecting flight to CBR and that a customer service officer will meet me at the air bridge. "Yeh right" I thunked, "as if". Sure enough, aircraft started disembarking, I was met by the Pursuer who introduced me to the CSO! Wow, this cough does happen!

Walking up the air bridge I had the choice of taking the golf buggy for a speedy trip to domestic if we were quick or stay the night in BNE pretty much on Qantas. Clearly a night on Qantas was in order; rebooking taken care of with cab charges, accommodation and meal voucher provided. A few reds deep, I did ask if we could do a spot of circle work with the buggy but no, apparently we can't. Anyhoo...the CSO dropped me at the duty free and met me post customs, handed over the vouchers, booking details and away I went. I sent an email to Qantas commending the CSO, he was an absolute legend. Once again, putting the W into WP...and Mrs Nut upgraded from flog to wa....
