Is Citybank still offering 5000 pts on referrals? I'm interested in applying for one of their cards but can't find any info on a referral offer. If so, can someone send me a referral please.

The process is not as simple as you may of thought...

Basicly, you send the 'referrer' a completed application form (plus any supporting documentation), and the referrer then adds his / her credit card number and name in the space provided. (top right hand corner... MUST use the special application form for 'referring')

The referrer then sends the fully completed form off to Citibank.

It's a 'security' issue for the referrer, which is why few people are willing to do it.

Having said that.... if you want to send me your completed application form, then I'll 'refer' you. Private Message me to continue.

regards,

Just a thought!

Why can't the referrer fill in the referral form with his/her name and credit card number (does not require expiry date to be given), and then send it to the applicant, who then can fill in the form and send everything off to Citibank without the referrer having to "see" anything :D

What? are you really asking what the potential problem might be?

In that case, can I have your credit card number? I won't need a correct expiry date, because most cards can be used over the phone with a false expiry (I've done it... my own card, just got the date mixed up with another card)

It's a matter of 5,000 points versus potential abuse of your card by a 'perfect stranger'. If the 'stranger' is genuine... he /she won't have anything to hide.

Oh well, I guess I can now go on a phone shopping spree using Lindsay Wilson's Platinum Visa Card then

haha.. sounds like fun!!

Only problem one might run in to if using another persons card "fraudulently" is when the cardholder disputes the transactions, if being claimed as fraud - may be asked to sign a privacy statement which has the following line : "I confirm this infomation to be true and correct and am willing for Citibank to disclose infomation relating to the above credit card account to law enforcement agencies"

Credit card fraud, while on a low scale won't get you in any trouble... hit that magic figure and a visit by bubba may be closer than you think

I'm not directing this at you kpc.. just a note incase it crossed anyones minds.... i had some unfortunate run ins when i was younger and learned swifty how the systems work ;)

I personally believe the referror has less risk than the referred. Referror gives the credit card number. But we all give our credit card numbers to many mail order and retail organisations (with the expiry date). It just takes a corrupt employee to collect the info to try to use it. With most cards providing fraud protection, I do not think it is a big issue. Only instance it can be easily used without much detection is downloading content (cough, music, etc) from the net. Most other instances will require a delivery address for the goods to be deliverd or require the card to be seen physically.

On the other hand the the applicant completes the form and sends to the referror (is there such a word?), the referror gets to see the address, date of birth and the mothers maiden name all of which are very confidential. Of course, the referror does not get to know the applicants (new) credit card number, but some referrors ask for that (once it is approved) so that they can check with the bank if they do not get the points credited in time.

It is for both parties to assess the risks and decide.
The schme is therefore designed for referrals of family and friends.

I've just revisited the Citibank (CB) website, and, it's been significantly updated since I last explored it.

It would appear, that the 'referrer' form (and whole concept) is no longer available.

The new CB website is now even worse than previous!

I spent an hour looking for the 'referrer' application form (I previously used one myself to get a Plat card).... I couldn't find it.

So, unless someone can let us know where to find this application form.... I'd forget the whole idea!

regards,

I got the 5000 points by being referred a few months back.
Part of the usual conditions of use etc junk mail you get with
a new credit card was 2 referrer application forms. If any
one wants to be referred, email/pm myself. I'm happy to do it.

Believe my referrer had to chase Citibank for their 5000 points.

Time to photocopy the existing referral forms? :)

ksthommo, indeed the referror does need to chase Citibank (yes, arun there is such a word in the English language). I was lucky to have another member give me the name of a Citibank Team leader, who had no trouble in crediting my "missing" point within 3 days of each enquiry.

Patience and the ability to give CB the new members' real name and their card number is essential. Still, it is disappointing that CB do not apparently have a very robust system for ensuring the referror gets their points (unlike the new member, who gets theirs upon acceptance).

Thanks to kpc for spending on my card (so that's who it was :D )...more points just in time for spending prior to 25 May 2005 (thanks heaps old chap). They were delivered to my (card) address yesterday. Just what I needed for Xmas...more steak knives  (you aren't honestly saying you were buying these for somebody's Christmas present, were you kpc??? )

ok, so I'm back from my holiday, I'm about to fill out the referral form and apply for my card (thanks ks)....but what I want to know is how can I get a point for each dollar transferred from my current card?

Hipsi,

When you receive the card and internet access, you can complete balance transfers online. Citibank were giving 2 points for every dollar when you closed another banks credit card account with the balance transfer. Don't know if this is still the case.

why can't they issue you with just a ref/member number rather than using your credit card number??? Less of a security risk for both parties involved i reckon

HELP PLEASE

I recently visited Andrew Cram's website for a referral and he was nice enough to mail me a copy of the referral application. I used this application form to apply for a Citibank Gold Visa card, which was approved, and I received the card in the mail yesterday. I called up Citibank to see if the 5000 bonus points have been added to my card, but they told me I have 0 points. Before I applied for my card, I asked citibank if the referral offer was still valid and they said yes.

I spoke to several citibank consultants about the 0 points issue and now talking on the phone with them is a scary task for me, because THEY ALL SOUND THE SAME, the whiney fake american accent, and they all have no idea how to help me. In the end they told me to re fax my original application form to a number (it wasn't a 1300 number) that wasn't even attached to a fax machine.

Should I wait a while longer to see if the 5000 points will be added to my account. I admit that the first thing I did when I received my card, was to ask about the points and this was before I activated it. If the points don't get added to my account, any suggestions on what I can do to make sure that I get them. Do you think I should re fax my application form to the number for initial credit card applications?

I was told it could take up to 8 weeks to get the points. If still no success, you should phone the CB complaints department 1300 308 935

Sorry to rehash old thread, but, does Citibank still offer the referral bonus???

Not the same way they used to, however if you signup to an affiliate program like commissionmonster dot com dot au you can get anywhere from $50-$250 for every referal (approved signup) you send through the web link.
