My seniors card is a pain at the moment and only scans about 1 in 3 times. I find it amazing the number of people that they swipe and get the error message and keep walking
If I knew I was entitled to be onboard for free then I'd keep walking. If I had funds attached to the card which were supposed to be used then likewise I'd keep walking. Because it's a system failure.

We are not as scrupulous as Singaporeans, in regards to the payment of fares, on their trains and buses.
Even if the buses were full, when I used it, long time ago now, you do not see any freeriders.
Neither do you see people jump the MRT turnstyles, I bet that at some of the Melbourne ones, with turnstyles, some people would jump it, and some stations dont even have turnstyles, or gates, so its a free for all.
I think too, that in Adelaide, everyone knows the group of 30/40 assortments of guys and gals who do the ticket inspection, on the buses.
Must be nice to do a fare dodge and not get caught, not so much for the pensioners/gold card holders, but the young ones esp.

We had some stats on fare evasion

When there were no gates at Adelaide railway station it was about 50% free riders.
Even now people on the outer harbour / grange lines can hop off at Bowden and get on the free tram to the city thus getting an entirely free trip to town

OffT: Its hilarious that despite our taxes going to pay for the CSO on the buses, or Wilsons, the fare evaders and the others, have no fear, and no respect for other pax, ie, we are paying for their ride.
Either the errant pax jump off the bus, as soon as they see the lime green fluoro vest "prescribed officer" come on, or do as the ***ian students do, plea innocence, and get on with their ride.
What is the point of that badge, its not even an authority crown one, just with the piping strike, "authority" my left foot!, my state Admet fares going to that, heh...
Sorry, grr, not a happy pooch, "I dont have money/I dont have my card/I dont have my debit card/I dont have my credit card....", or jump onto an Obahn bus via the back door.
OnT.
