New Qantas promos including double status credits (book by 3/9/25; travel 4/9/25 until 22/8/26)

For many years nearly all of my flights have been DSC ones. I have flown more than required to attain/retain status multiple times knowing that the DSC would count to LTSC.

At the moment this change impacts me negatively a lot more than the recent points devaluation despite having lots of points. Though when I get to LTG it now being harder to achieve will make it a little more exclusive, though that is undermined a bit by how easy it is to gain access to the lounges SG can access with lounge passes, QANTAS Club membership etc.

QP and Passes aren’t new and also pretty worthless outside of Oz (except AA ACs). So getting to SG (OWS) each year (and hopefully LTG for you) is still very much worthwhile.

Whoever is advising Qantas Loyalty during their challenging times doesn't seem to understand much about not upsetting their loyal customers.
I already have pre-booked flights to attain required status for the coming 18 months.
The SC 'gift' is worthless as it is surplus to my current year requirements and expires .
From posts here, sounds like many are in the same boat. I dare say the geniuses at Qantas knew this too.
During DSC promotions I usually throw in a few extra dom trips to add to the LT tally.
Those extras are now worthless, so Qantas will lose out.
We're small fry but are probably the most loyal of their customers and have been for many years.
Discouraging 'enhancement', poor gratitude.
AFF regulars are probably not representative of the average QFF punters. I suspect outside this forum, both the gift and DSC/P promos were well received.
oh, I’ve also see that Virgin has just given me $25.
I got one of those via VBR. If it were $250 and I might consider it… Very unlikely to ever step onto a VA plane using my own money after the recent hatchet job.
With the gift still 505sc for Gold.
As a purely self funded traveller even with a dsc can’t justify at least 255sc in flying when that is more than my travelling for the year to date.
We’re purely self-funded travellers now and maybe we have the luxury of easily retaining WP each year - usually not via DSC but cheap partner J fares to Europe / Americas ex Asia (and SC earn on redemptions via PC). And other hacks learnt here over the years!

What challenging times are those exactly?

For corporate, things look pretty rosy today.

A cynical 'look over there' stunt by Qantas to divert attention from their very high profits.

If that was their intention (which I don't agree), it failed. Profits and aircraft order got a lot of media coverage. Barely a passing comment relating to the DSC promo and "gifts". Although the $1K share bonus for employees was widely reported on.

No doubt the "gift" is there to increase revenue.

I'd be curious to know which cheap partner J fares you are referring to, or if this is simply a matter of having a "good" (read: cheap) origin city? With the potential end (let's hope this is a one-off) of LTG via DSC, its time to find solutions with partner airlines...

Yes - I was expecting it to be then so have been caught a little unprepared for this one!

VA results out tomorrow - maybe they wanted to get in first in case VA launches a similar promo.

Welcome to AFF!

Numerous examples - AA domestic fares, certain cities for long haul (including AKL to USA), Round the World bookings (DONE4) starting from another city like Tokyo...

I haven't received an email yet, are others in this boat too?
I haven't received the email for the QBR double points offer that I have to register for - however I still can't get access to my account either - it has only been eight weeks of them trying to sort that problem out...

Thank you! Thought it was about time after being a long time lurker observer.

ex-Asia, intra-Asia travel is a huge bummer on OW because many very good Economy Sale fares on CX and MH are 0% accrual on QF.

LOTS of ideas, info here.

But starting in Asia and heading to Europe (or even Nth Am), can be half the price on QR, CX, AY, WY etc than trying to find Biz fares ex Oz. Obviously, you need to get to/from Oz - Asia, but several Asian ports are readily available as Biz Classic Rewards on QF flights.

Ditto for me and Ms Basalt. The 150 'gift' SC's are going straight to the pool room as there's no room left where I've shoved all the other enhancements from AJ and VH.

As this round of DSC does not contribute to Lifetime Status, and 150 SC would have been enough to retain Platinum, I wonder if anyone would switch to double points instead?
I think for this time, I will choose Double Points and make minimal booking, as it doesn't count towards Platinum Bonus Reward.
Maybe I should now collect PPS Value for my flight from Singapore to HK in December.

Let's be clear - Qantas doesn't create these promotions to benefit their customers - they do it to make money. Some bean counter has run an AI query (formerly known as Big Data) which concluded that accelerating loyal customers to Life Time status was a bad idea. Once they get to LTG the relentless need to book Qantas at every opportunity diminishes.

On the other hand, dangling new Silver/Gold/Platinum status in front of Bronze/Silver/Gold members is an ongoing incentive to get to the next level.

As Russell would say - "Genius!!!"

I'm about 400 sc from hitting LTG finally, and had been waiting for next DSC offer to do a little holiday somewhere to knock it over. Given the extra SC won't count, I think I'm better just waiting until after the promo when there are some cheaper sale fares, right? I'm relieved I'm close enough I can still get over the LTG line soon-ish, but disappointed at this change of the rules. I've been WP for quite a few years now but will come nowhere near retaining WP this year (so the gifted SC are useless), and I'm not going to go on a bunch of DSC status runs just to get that for another year, as LTG is pretty much the only goal for me now that am so close.

I notice that the FAQ says it can take up to 8 weeks for the DSC to be credited.
What are people's experiences with how soon they show up in reality ?

If I book a flight using this, it would be in early / mid October and my year-end is Oct 31st.

Given the DSC would be just enough to have me retain gold, I am a bit concerned that they may not show up in time.
In my experience (had DSC flights from the last round flown last month) it's within a couple of days of the flight. Even if they don't, they count from the date flown, so even if they're late, they still count towards your current year.

Do I still get the double status credits if I book via AMEX using my travel credit, or is it essential to book direct with Qantas?
From past experience, yes you'll still get them, any booking avenue on QF metal/QF code booked within the DSC booking window and flown within the DSC flying window will earn.

neither the loyalty bonus offer today or the DSC offer contribute to LT status, this was always the case so if you have already achieved/retained your status for the year they are worthless
Nope, always counted towards lifetime until now. Even the 600 SC given in 2021 for pandemania counted towards lifetime (the 500 rollover in 2022/23 didn't count).

I remember in 2020 (? whenever BP joined up with QF), they tried to exclude the 50SC from that from lifetime, but there was the obvious backlash (since everyone had status extended) and they backed down - I was sort of half heartedly hoping that would be the case with this, but I doubt it'll come about.

I'm currently on 1,827, just short of 6 months into the year - unfortunately that isn't equally weighted in the second half, so I'm not currently on track to reach P1.
Grateful for clarification / confirmation. .Eligibility is said to be on Qantas marketed and operated flights.

If I book return flights in/out Europe through/marketed Qantas but on the flights operated by Emirates (so 4-digit flight numbers beginning QF) — this booking would not qualify for this offer? Either for double points or double SC?
2017 was the last year codeshares (with QF code on "foreign" metal) counted for DSC sadly. The only exception is the AY operated flights SYD-SIN/BKK.

Prob the whole $90M fine for violating FW rules...that sort of thing doesn't do them any PR favours either.

No doubt the "gift" is there to increase revenue.
I suspect the whole thing is to increase revenue and to brush any negative publicity under the carpet. Anyone on the status train will book regardless, this brings forward potentially a year of revenue.
