This is an interesting initiative...

If you book the last VA SYD-MEL flight on Thursday 7 August, and the first MEL-SYD on Friday 8 August, Virgin will host a night of complimentary entertainment for you while you're in Melbourne. A "curated night of music, sport, food and culture", they're calling it. You just have to book those two flights and then register.

Any takers?

In case anyone's wondering, it's $290 return for Economy Lite fares on both flights.

Oh wow, I haven't done a full on party flight run in years. This is very appealing to me. 😁
Unfortunately I'll be stuck in Canberra for work that night, otherwise I'd have tried to get a group together to do this.
Good on VA for giving something new and fun a go, I hope it's a big success.

I’ve flown a 6am flight out of Ibiza once, and it was something…

I do wonder how this passed risk assessment! It’s all fun and games until someone mistakes the emergency exit for the toilet.

So if you were going to Melbourne anyway… book a lite fare down, and fully refundable back? Get a free night of entertainment!

But the terms and conditions say you are responsible for paying for all meals and drinks, etc. The late night eats at the supper club are presumably PAYG?

Also recently saw the new Vecloty add, Velocity means fast , not with their new points earning table and it's certainly not wonderful either
Velocity Means Fast, has been going since June 2023, it's purely an awareness campaign in regards to earning Velocity points with partners. Nothing to do with status credits.
But yep, I hear you on the status credits side ;)

typical "story" being a paid-for advertisement
Pretty normal now, Sunrise on 7 has paid for "news stories" for Qantas/Jetstar once per week or two now. Usually along these lines... "And in breaking news, Qantas has dropped a huge sale, just look at these prices" - graphic appears onscreen with destinations, then insert chat about how good the deals are and how hosts need to book quickly to take advantage of them etc"

Do you know for sure that this is paid content? Qantas and Virgin these days issue press releases announcing sales etc, sometimes even with video interviews etc. provided that the TV news outlets can just run with minimal effort. It would be cheap content for them.

Yes, it is clearly 100% paid for.
I used to work in commercial TV & Radio, in advertising & broadcasting (before working for an airline);)
To those in the industry, ex industry, is very obvious.
They are actually meant to mention that it's paid for under the industry code of conduct, but that rarely happens as commercial radio and TV is all self regulated.
There is a big difference between speaking with Virgin about pets on a plane and promoting specific deals/sales.

This reminds me of the “Dusk to Dawn” trips to Melbourne when I was in year 11 and 12 in Bendigo, during a recreation/activities week Depart at 6pm arrive back at 6am. Great night. Some nights there were 5 buses of 16-17 yos.

But now in my 50s not so much the target demographic for this sort of thing. Although with the right activities in the right cities might be still ok …..
