Thanks guys! I only moved back to Melbourne recently after being away for over a decade. Starting the collection from scratch again. Managed to get back on the Wendouree mailer after not ordering for half a decade. No crayons so not holding out much hope. Also got those Struie’s from DM last week, brilliant buy!

Will keep you guys posted with any bargains from my end.

Nice, we might need to do some Melbourne split buys. I’m in a similar position, adding for 5-10 years from now.

I encourage you to try John Duval Entity Shiraz. Along with Torbreck Struie probably my favourite shiraz for the price ($45) and perfect for 10 year cellaring.

I'm more of a woodcutters guy (full body heavy Shiraz).
I don't think the price is intentional. There is a mistake somewhere in the process.

I think so too. I was just joking about the conspiracy theory.

I have had 2 bottles of the Woodcutter, and I’m not a big fan. I like big Shiraz also. I had a 2017 Filsell the other day, and it was fantastic, but the Woodcutter didn’t do it to me. I sold some of them (I cleared the shop, so I had two dozen or so), and I am keeping a six-pack in a corner of the cellar to be forgotten for a few years. Then, hopefully, I will be: ‘Oh no, I should have kept more!'

For the Paringa, I’m, however, very confident that it is my style, so thanks again, this is a killer deal!

Torbeck's style is more medium bodied, Rhone style shiraz/syrah. If that's not your thing you've probably done the right thing to move them on.

Not trying to be a downer but I am not sure Woodcutters will enhance too much with cellaring. If anything, 5 years max. There's not much oak in support. I don't know many red wines sub $30 that are massively enhanced by cellaring.

Yes, I’m planning to try it again in 3-5 years and like it or make my friends happy.

Would you describe Woodcutter as a Rhône style? I’m not super familiar with Côte du Rhône, but from the little I know, I didn’t connect at all.
What I will associate with an Aussie ‘Rhône’ is more something like Bannockburn. Do you know their Shiraz from Geelong? To me, it smells of Crozes-Hermitage. A beautiful wine that I would love to find at 12 for 6 like those other deals!

As for the Woodcutter, I tasted a Barossa Shiraz. Very fruity, with not much oak as you said, and you are probably right, it may not change much with a bit of cellaring. Oh well, we will see and learn!

I had it in an Italian restaurant setting recently and thought it was understated and elegant. It’s subtle. It’s obviously different to a South Australian Shiraz but I liked it. Absolutely a steal for $10.

I like Bannockburn also.

To me the elegance with Torbreck starts with The Steading (a Rhone style GSM with beautiful nose) and The Struie (Shiraz), and you can move up from there if budget permits. I would try both of these first for a better assessment of what they do.
