QANTAS Cyber Incident

So was it a coincidence the arrival event for the A321XLR was cancelled and this news came out? Vanessa would have been answering questions on this problem from the media rather than talking about the aircraft

The Mindpearl call centre in Manila has been erroneously using my personal information and causing me damage for years. I doubt these "cyber criminals" will maliciously cancel or fail to re-ticket my flights and then hang-up on me. I am less concerned with how the hackers might use my data than how Qantas does.

We are still waiting to 'be advised' by the first email.
Got one earlier in the day. Actually I am an infrequent flyer but usually go out of Perth to North Asia. I mainly use Singapore, Cathay or Thai. Haven't used qantas in years but still a member. The card is still handy but I will have to find the password! Not bothered to put it in my current password manager so who knows what it is!

Interesting if correct...

"In the case of Qantas, the hack was a “vishing” — or voice phishing — attack where a call centre worker was tricked into allowing a third-party into the system."

Anyone with any significant number of points should already have setup an authenticator for QFF access
A couple of years ago, Qantas locked my FF account after an obvious spam text went to many people saying click here or the many thousands of points waiting for you will be gone forever (it was a lot, such a big number so as to be an obvious fake). I was forced to call (yes, Manila) and they helped me setup Authenticator... doesn't everyone now have to use 2 factor authentication?

From Matt's article:

However, if you are impacted by this, you should carefully scrutinise any communications you receive in the coming months which claim to be from Qantas. With access to information such as your name, email address, phone number and frequent flyer number, scammers may be able to send fraudulent emails or text messages to you that look quite convincing.

Good advice; now, why didn't Qantas say that in its e-mail?

Racist comment. Completely Australian QF management issues. Incompetent.

Wot? Admit incompetence? LOL.
I don't see it as racist but more the experience with overseas call centres and some in particular, leaves much to be desired because of lack of knowledge (poor training) and lack of power they may have, probably just as well given the former. Manila is simply the location of the overseas call centre. That's all.

Who here hasn't said HUACA when the team from Hobart haven't picked up and the problem you rang about isn't sorted.

got the "Important update from Qantas about your personal information"... email..... doesnt actually say much more than the original, other than to say your details were involved.

Also have just received the mail.

Oh well, my information has been compromised a number of times already if I am to believe haveibeenpwned. I've been unfortunate to have information leaked through hotel chains, charities, mobile games and even Adobe.
