General Cruise Discussion

I saw that description in another thread and thought - must have been travelling on "Celebrity Brocos Leagues Club" and felt sorry for the low-renter.

Meals and booze are included in many cruises, including the ones I travel on (SilverSea, Ponant) but you'd hardly call them "all you can eat (or drink)", any more than the buffet at any hotel or indeed at home.

@Quickstatus - your continuing close inquisitiveness about cruises can be addressed by actually taking a cruise. Small vessel, expedition, such as the Kimberley Coast - you'll like it.
Yep, pretty much all cruises are “all you can eat” - if that’s one’s thing.

Yes, here and in the US there are plenty of hungry peeps who go for that. But certainly not the majority.

Coming back to Celebrity - the restaurant food is generally very good. You do have to pay a surcharge for some of the better specialty restaurants and booze of course. But you’re paying thousands of dollars less than a small ship (nice as they are).

We got quite a good price on a December NZ cruise on Nova. Will be interesting to see what we think of this larger Silversea (no s on the end) ship compared with the others we have been on.

Der - realised this related to a post snout 4 pages back and I had already posted. Oh well, I’ll blame old age!

There are quite a lot of us here who have already been "just fine" on smallish expedition ships in very heavy weather.
Your personal experience to make for such a cynical remark is ??
Sorry @tgh
I was reviewing rooflyer's Kimberly cruise TR and came across your question which I didnt answer:

Answer. Interislander rail and car Ferry trip across Cooks Strait. Ship tonnage ?15000T

Clear weather so I had lunch on board which became a bad decision a few minutes after getting underway. 🤢

And I've been on a Cooks straight ferry and in 2 ~ 6000 tonne Expedition ships. The expedition ships handled rough seas much better than the Cook strait ferry. In fact on the silver explorer we went through 3 Force 12 Atlantic gales and a Pacific typhoon without missing a meal. Very stable ship.

Tidal movements are pretty basic stuff
The bridge would have known to the cm but the expedition team stuffed up

Hmmmm...

I read about this with interest as I will be onboard the Cloud in August. I’m expecting that we will see an abundance of caution from the expedition team in response to this.

It could be interesting to see whether they had appropriate permits for landing on Adele Island.
that’s what I was thinking. I reckon it was just a Zodiac drive-by so, a number of people having tramped all over the reef, I think there will be some strife for SilverSea.

I just noticed that in the ABC story that @JohnM linked to, there’s a photo of people walking across the reef using walking poles.

Either that’s a stock photo and not from the actual incident or there was alwaysgoing to be a landing on the reef and people were intending to walk. The photo credit suggests it’s from the actual incident.

I have just checked the activities for Adele Island for my August cruise and it is listed as a Zodiac cruise.

If in the present case it was meant to be just a Zodiac cruise, it raises the question of how they could possibly get stuck if constantly afloat and why the pax were carrying walking poles.

If it's this voyage on Silver Cloud, the notes indicate a landing:

Yes, that is the voyage.
It doesn't match the information in the online MySilversea site which indicates Zodiac cruise.
  • ZODIAC CRUISE WITH SILVERSEA EXPEDITION TEAM
  • Adele Island, Kimberley, Australia
  • This activity is conducted by Silversea Expedition Team and is depending on the weather and the sea condition of the day. More specific information and logistics will be communicated by the Expedition Team on board.
