Australian Cricket Season 2024-2025

Well that was very ordinary imo. Maybe the selectors were trying a few things before this summer's ashes, dunno? Can't really take anything away from SA, particularly after their first innings. Things may have been different if Smith had held that catch and not broken his finger.

So we pick a guy to open that doesn't usual open, correct me if I'm wrong, plus according to reports, he is close to being dropped, just to add some more pressure on him......

Then we pick an all-rounder that at moment can't bowl and has had a fairly mediocre season so far in division TWO of the county championship, although he did score two centuries against division two teams.

As above for the opener, now let's make it extra tough for him and put him at first drop, has he played there before, don't think so? Please correct me if I'm wrong. First innings a very lucky 4 off what seemed to be a bottom edge, two balls later, bowled.
Second innings, didn't manage to trouble the scorers! Zero first ball, out the next. So a total of 5 balls for 4 runs, that worked well, didn't it!

Unlucky to loose the toss, would have been a good one to win.

Yep, as I have said, very easy to comment from the sidelines, the poms must be rubbing their hands with glee.

So, who do you pick for the West Indies, or again, just treat it as a bit fun?

Our bowlers have papered over the cracks for a while. We did take this game as a bit of a joke but we will switch back on for the Windies (well I hope as I’ll be over there for it)
Probably a couple of changes to the batting lineup as we will try to get some sort of lineup sorted for the Ashes

The whole top order has been experimental for a while now. Green at 3 suggests they feel they don't have much to choose from. Seems like they're content to guess who should be where in the top 4, until someone gets a hundred and then say that'll do.

I think Boland has to play more often, at the expense of Hazlewood who is solid/economical but not getting enough wickets. Maybe a good opportunity to give Lyon's successor a run in the Caribbean. I'm guessing this is his last home summer.

Doesn’t explain the treatment of McSweeney, pick him as an opener, something he has rarely done, then drop him when things don’t go well.
How about something revolutionary, pick a player in their preferred spot, or at least where they have batted previously.
Mr @Pushka could probably explain why treating players in this way is not good.

In the past selection was brutal
Two strikes and you’re out…

Now it appears harder to be dropped than get in
The teams been allowed to age without renewal - seniority has ruled over performance
The rookie gets dropped before the longer played familiar older player

Given our country of origin profile we ought have a different mix of players (think old players network) but instead it seems tokenistic

About time the administrators in our. Big sports woke up to their delusional thinking

We absolutely should have been blooding new players and mixing it up but at the end of the day the coaches and selectors are here for the now not the later and the Australian cricket side has on very major trophy on offer in recent times so they are loathe to change a winning combination too much

From his own experience the ACB and various state entities make confounding decisions and which likely greatly impact on players psyche with little regard.
