Economy x

We have always booked and paid for economy x seats when traveling domestic with virgin Australia . Today when I went to check in online for or flight Melbourne to Perth on Thursday , I realised that our paid for economy x seats were now ordinary economy ( no extra leg room) ! It was a fluke that I noticed this , and after a couple of long phone calls with customer service , it was confirmed that yes those rows were now plain economy . We managed to get our seats changed to extra leg room , but what I’m wondering is why weren’t we informed ? We wouldn’t have known until boarding when it would probably have been too late to do anything! My 6foot5 husband would have had a very unpleasant 4 hour flight . Has this happened to anyone else ?

Were you originally in row 5? The aircraft may have swapped to the new config with only rows 3 and 4 being EconomyX...

Indeed. As Airwin says, better to stick to either rows 3, 4 or one of the exits if you want more legroom. Avoid row 5.

Check any bookings you currently have to move to the appropriate rows.

Correct , and if the seat next to mine hadn’t been vacant , I wouldn’t have picked up on that

Now I know , will do that . Our normal row preference is 3 or 4 but they weren’t available when I booked . If they arnt next time will def opt for exit row .

One of the best benefits of VA WP status is Economy X on every flight (where available).
Yes Indeed. I flew MEL-ADL today and did a fly forward, so I was lucky to secure 4C, when I had 3A on the original flight. As it was a new config there's really no difference between rows 3 and 4 now. The whole thing is being devalued,

On the flip side, I booked a Row 5 seat for a flight last week, listed as standard, but turned out to still be X with extra legroom. So might be worth a punt for those without Plat and not wanting to pay for 3/4.

I've just kindly asked at the BNE lounge if we could swap to row 4 on our flight this afternoon, Gold VFF travelling on Lite fare.

Denied citing the policy and "we've been told to clamp down", despite all of row 4 and 3 DEF available at T-1. Pay up or no go.

Would have thought there would be been some goodwill still left in the kitty, now the late check ins will get those prime seats instead of the "valued" FFers they no longer much so care about.

Yes indeed, but unfortunately not. The American venture capital company Bain has put paid to any of that sentiment. Pay up or go to the back. Very sad.

Last week I was booked in 4F for SYD-ADL and just before takeoff I was asked to move to 26F for takeoff and landing as the plane was probably less than half full, so in the name of balance. I could have moved back for the flight I guess but it wasn't worth it as I'd have to go back for landing. In any case I had a whole row and it's under two hours of flying so no big deal apart from disembarkation - being near the back but having to go out the front as my bags were there.
