The Virgin Australia Newbie Questions Thread

I’m cancelling a SQ award booked via Velocity. The cancellation request form doesn’t provide an option to choose whether I’d prefer to pay the cancellation penalty in cash ($60) or points (7,500).

Anyone know how/if I can nominate a preference before I hit “Cancel booking”?

You need to call them.

Ring them up.
You'll get the points back instantly

IIRC in cancelling a domestic award I had to call to get charged in $$ rather than points?

It might be that you have to do the same for international.

Thanks all for quick replies. I assume they’d waive any relevant phone support fee (if there is one?) to process cancellation over phone, given lack of choice online?

Finally had a chance to call regarding this yesterday. Despite my fears, it couldn't have been easier. Call took 5 mins from pressing dial to hanging up, with points back in my account instantly. Not bad at all.

I am looking into a future long-haul trip; in a few weeks, the booking calendar will start to open for the relevant dates. My daughter has indicated some interest in coming with me, but it's possible she will decide later not to come.

If I make an award booking for two people, but in the end she wants to cancel, can I cancel one passenger while keeping the booking intact? Or would I have to cancel in full then hope the space for a single pax becomes available again?

(I will be posting similar questions across several programs I might use.)

Does everyone else get lots of VA business flyer promo emails? Wondering if it’s just me, or if it’s standard. I seem to get one or two a week telling me to maximise my business rewards, or help my company, etc etc.

I’m not with a company, and don’t have business rewards.

You should be fine to cancel one guest subject to the fare conditions.

So has anyone recently had any luck doing a multi-city booking through the call center for individual QR flights that are showing J reward avail on the site but can't be booked as one thru- booking on the website?

I recently received 1904 points and 40SC on a business class flight booked by work. Got no idea if this is the new status credit rate, anyone know if this is a mistake? or some travel agent special booking thing I am not aware of.

Route was ZNE to PER, status is Platinum (so I would have thought either the points would be higher or status credits would be lower).

Thanks!

1904/4 = $476 (given a sale J fare ~ $499 I’d assume this is the fare with the business discount)
$476/12 = 39.667 ~ 40
My guess would be your platinum bonus wasn’t applied to the points earned.

Cheers for that, is it worth messaging velocity and asking for them to apply the platinum bonus or is Sale J similar to Lite fares where they are not eligible for bonus points?

So if I book flex fares during the double-SC promo, and then later I change the date, it keeps the double SCs, right? They're linked to the booking and not the specific flights?
