The Virgin Australia Newbie Questions Thread

I’m cancelling a SQ award booked via Velocity. The cancellation request form doesn’t provide an option to choose whether I’d prefer to pay the cancellation penalty in cash ($60) or points (7,500).

Anyone know how/if I can nominate a preference before I hit “Cancel booking”?

You need to call them.

Ring them up.
You'll get the points back instantly

IIRC in cancelling a domestic award I had to call to get charged in $$ rather than points?

It might be that you have to do the same for international.

Thanks all for quick replies. I assume they’d waive any relevant phone support fee (if there is one?) to process cancellation over phone, given lack of choice online?

Finally had a chance to call regarding this yesterday. Despite my fears, it couldn't have been easier. Call took 5 mins from pressing dial to hanging up, with points back in my account instantly. Not bad at all.

I am looking into a future long-haul trip; in a few weeks, the booking calendar will start to open for the relevant dates. My daughter has indicated some interest in coming with me, but it's possible she will decide later not to come.

If I make an award booking for two people, but in the end she wants to cancel, can I cancel one passenger while keeping the booking intact? Or would I have to cancel in full then hope the space for a single pax becomes available again?

(I will be posting similar questions across several programs I might use.)

Does everyone else get lots of VA business flyer promo emails? Wondering if it’s just me, or if it’s standard. I seem to get one or two a week telling me to maximise my business rewards, or help my company, etc etc.

I’m not with a company, and don’t have business rewards.

You should be fine to cancel one guest subject to the fare conditions.
