Vinomofo Wine Deals

Good morning brains trust,

$40 birthday voucher has landed in my inbox and I'm looking at the Mitolo G.A.M. Shiraz to relieve myself of a few dollars. Vinomofo has the 2021 ($29.99 p/b) and has just added the 2019 ($25 p/b) to their listings and it has thrown a spanner in the works as to which vintage to get. Listings are almost word for word identical albeit products have different closure systems (19 screwcap, 21 cork).

Any thoughts on which way to lean?

Unwrapped: Mitolo G.A.M Shiraz 2019 - Red Wine

Thanks
I'm not sure of the 2019, but the 2021 was the pick at a tasting I had a couple of months ago. For a young wine, it had a lot to offer.

You probably can visit them at the Stonehaven winery, Padthaway, which they bought from Hardy's and have revamped. I think Ben Wurst is a very good head winemaker. He might, however, be very stretched by the rapid expansion of CW, absorbing a series of separate brands, as they have. Presumably he has other makers on board too, given the range they now oversee. If a larger company is to absorb smaller wine producers, better to be CW, which has wine in its DNA, is locally owned, managed & based in S.A, than something like Pernod Ricard or other foreign mega outfits.
I like it how you can get wine in your DNA after moving into grapes in 2003 from onion and potato-growing. Sounds positively Lamarckian!

Anyhoo, I'm pleased they are local (I had thought they were majority foreign). Hopefully they grow the business well enough to shed some of the current negatives. As it stands if I dig and find the CW name I stop and move on... possibly unfair but based on some consistent experiences

Yes it does sound a bit Lamarckian rather than biologically accurate. The CW in the name gives a hint (CoonaWarra), and ownership is local.

To be fair, given the proliferation of Doris Plum, having access to SK site is the same as vm uncovered
Not sure of your meaning here?
VM Uncovered doesn't work for most recent BM offers.
If there is a Sam Kim score and a Wine Pilot score or Wine Companion it usually takes about 5-10 minutes to correlate and identify, if you have access to Wine Orbit and Wine Companion.

I’ve been using ChatGPT a little with pretty good success (can definitely do the leg work yourself and sometimes still need too). Just tell it varietal, year, ABV, RRP, points from critics, any hints they give in the description like region or winemaking process stuff ie 12months in new oak etc. I sometimes just copy paste a lil section of their blurb about the winemaking process and such. It can get a little confused if you paste in their tasting notes so I tend to leave that out.
