AA plane goes down [overshoots runway on Landing]

Just heard on the news an AA 737 has crashed in Jamica, no doubt more to follow. God rest the souls of those who have died (if any and here's hoping not!)

CaribWorldNews, KINGSTON, Jamaica, Weds. Dec. 23, 2009: American Airlines flight 331 flying to Kingston, Jamaica last night crashed after landing at the Norman Manley International Airport.

Sketchy details emerging from local media reports claim that accident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. on the flight which had arrived from* Miami to torrential rain.

The plane reportedly skidded off the runway as it attempted to land and broke in two. Details of injuries were not immediately available at press time. Stay tuned for more on this breaking news story. No official word was forthcoming from AA as of midnight last night.

As of 16:59 AEDT, the NY Times is reporting a runway overshoot at KIN, no fatalities, some hospitalisations, aircraft damaged but didn't break-up.

That's good news.It's such a great relief to know that no one is seriously hurt and the outcome of the accident is a lot better than initially reported.

Glad no one was killed but I had to laugh at this from American Airlines plane crash ? what do the passengers say? | Entertainment and Showbiz!

Another on-board passenger Pilar Abaurrea recalled the horrible memory of the plane skidding all the way to runway while it was raining cats-and-dogs. She said that the journey was throughout very disturbing and the crew had to stop serving drinks to the passengers.

Looks like they had a lucky escape, though hoping the serious injuries stabilise. Strangely only one grainy photo so far, hoping to see some more photos of the aircraft and it’s position on the beach tomorrow.

That is the second 738 this year to be involved in a close to landing/landing incident, and the damage looks very similar. However I think the two are totally unrelated. The Turkish incident the plane stalled?, where this seems to be a runway overshoot.

Those breaks look very clean; I thought the edging would have been more jagged.

I always wondered when the plane crashes you head for the emergency exits but I thought the great big hole in the fuselage would be easier to escape through; that's if you were not too injured to walk. :?:
