Qantas launches new A330-200 on domestic routes

... The last pic shows three abreast with a window. No where on the new A330 is there three abreast Y seats next to a window.
Maybe it's one of the new 73H's? ... although the overhead controls look a bit dated.

I'm flying on one tomorrow, I'll try to remember to check.

Just flew SYD-PER in J on the new bird.

Nice interior, feels roomy. Great seat width, plenty of room for me and I am no light weight. Quite hard however and the recline is just plain bad.

Not a good seat for sleeping but with the new AVOD system it is great for day flights.

Good room for laptop use during flight, but I did not use in seat power so no idea.

Did not see the Y cabin so no idea.

It's definitely one of the new 73H's.

I flew in one in economy and and I must write that I am not a fan of the seats.

Firstly, the seat is shorter - raising the headrest up as far as it goes only just allows the back of my head to rest against it. I am 183cm, a taller passenger may have troubles resting their head comfortably.

Secondly, there is an edge at the top of the seat back cushion that digs into my shoulder blades when the headrest is raised, making it very uncomfortable. When lowered, the headrest sits on top of this edge. You can see the lowered headrests meeting this edge from the back in this photo:

I suppose being shorter saves weight, but I am surprised at how uncomfortable I found these seats. Smaller passengers should be fine.

The AVOD is good; certainly far better than previous offerings.

There is a better image of these seats in the article linked to in post #39.

Finally, there's plenty of room in the exit row seats:

FWIW I have noticed JQ adding 332 capacity to and fro Perth early next year (i.e JQ968/969).

Does anybody know when this will start?

Also *class did not seem available when trying to book from the QF website.

I've tried finding an A332, but can't find any on MEL-PER.

I do know they increased the turnaround time on the flights in PER recnetly as preparation for the change, but hasn't helped me find one in the timetable.

I have found the A332 operating about half of the SYD-PER flights and a fair share of MEL-PER flights.

Much better than B763's but not as good as the A333 flights.

The A332 on the PER-MEL and v.v vary from route to route, and day to day.

Looking in early March, the A332 from PER are on the following flight numbers
QF802/648, and JQ969

Whilst the return flights are
QF481/485 and JQ968.

I do know that QF648 is sometimes a 763, but most days is an A332.

My question is now that QF have the new A332, and a new one early next year, are any of the PER-MEL v.v going to be serviced by the new A332, or intl. config A332?

I think the A333/A332 INT will still fly the route given that QF need to repo the plane for Int flights ex PER.

I did not mind the new A332 but would still take SkyBeds over the Silevrwing any day.

The intl. A332 do not have any further international flights ex PER AFAIK?

But the A333 does.

Fully aware of that. I am hoping that the sole B763 route ex PER (NRT), gets replaced fairly shortly. Sorry OT.

It will be interesting to see the utilization patterns of each of the A332, to see which flights get what

I was looking specifically for the JQ 332 flights between MEL and PER. I have found some now, but they don't have *Class availability on the JQ site. I wonder if they will offer it.

In had not heard that *C was going to be offered on trancons. IME *C is only offered on certain INT routes and repo flights.

YMMV

JQ sell starclass on all their A330 services, so its logical to expect they will offer it on the transcon services as well, regardless of the purpose of putting the aircraft on that route. As per the change to OOL from BNE, the StarClass fares get loaded last into the booking engine.

If J* were to offer *C on trancons surely it would take away from QF J. Same SC's, same seat halfprice:?:

I think J* will take out the J seating and fill with Y.

The people flying QF J know the difference between the products, by the time you see JQ 332s on the route you will see QF J enhanced to justify the difference. So it wont be the same seat at half price but a whole heap of difference, for instance the new business lounge in Perth will be open, express clearance for security and probably Skybed on flights that are at similar timings to JQ !

I doubt they would do that - it's unlikely there will be an A332 dedicated to domestic flying.

This new J class domestic config plane is a total disgrace.

Yesterday I travelled QF581 from Sydney to Perth. Was seated in 2F and the flight was completely FULL.

Felt very cramped and uncomfortable, expecially when the person in 1F fully relcined his seat. Most unpleasant experience.

Asked the cabin crew had their many complaints. Respose was "not from passgers but the staff are very annoyed because they have more passengers to serve and 1 less crew member to help."

Apparently QF have reduced the number of crew working this plane.

In future, will prefer to travel on the old 767 they ran the risk of getting this current plane.

Food was good.

Please put in a formal complaint via the website, QF are in limbo on this configuration and reportedly looking at other options. If people keep complaining it helps.

Pass on the positive feedback about the food though so it's not just a hate mail :)
