QANTAS has launched its first A330-200 aircraft to service domestic routes, providing new seating and inflight entertainment options for passengers.

The aircraft represents a new, and more enjoyable, era of flying for Australians travelling around the nation, Qantas CEO Alan Joyce said.
“For the first time Qantas will operate a domestic aircraft featuring state-of-the-art in-seat entertainment for all customers,” Mr Joyce said.

The A330 aircraft is configured with 36 business and 265 economy seats. Each seat offers a USB port for passenger to charge their electrical devices and touch screen functionality for its entertainment system.

The plane's on-demand Panasonic eX2 system has over five hundred entertainment options including movies, television programs, a CD library, games, a dedicated children’s section, plus Qantas Lonely Planet Guides as seen on the A380.

First A330-200?

Since when?

Typical nonews inaccuracy. I think they really mean "first in the new configuration"

Whatever, it's good to see QF finally recognising the domestic customers' needs, particularly on the longer segments.

I know:p

Since the B743's were taken off transcon runs, QF lacked any decent IFE apart from the odd A332/333 run. Although IFE is something little, people do mention that DJ are better (even if you have to pay for it) from PER in this regard.

It will be a lottery trying to book onto this new A332 now!

A friend of mine is scheduled to be on one of these today to Perth I think...

I guess the other challenge will be to see who can post the first pics of the new seats.

Some pics to go with the press release would have been nice.

All I can say is - about time...

Some of our longer domestic routes are longer than quite a few other airlines international routes. A standard short-haul domestic produt doesn't really cut it, especially as QF used to have in-seat IFE on those routes. (I miss the B743s...)

I wonder how long it'll be before all A332 aircraft have AVOD???

I dare say a while.. I can't see QF retrofitting the existing machines for a while, or the ones that will likely be handed back by JQ when the 787s arrive.

Don't really see the need for IFE when the 332s replace the 767s on shorthaul

When are the A332's planning on replacing the 767's on short haul?

Right now with exception to the few re-positioning flights or extentions of international flights, most A330 flights (both 200 and 300 series) last for quite a few hours. Having free AVOD would be a useful thing, because as others have said, IFE is available (paid) on all transcon DJ flights. Plus dinner if your willing to pay for it as well. This kinda reduces QF's product a little.

Dare I suggest reading the full sentence. assuming that your not suggesting something else and I'm too ignorant to realise

EBM departed 25 minutes late this morning from SYD, arriving into PER some 37 minutes late.

It is currently returning to SYD operating QF580 after departing 36 minutes late.

This aircraft is not scheduled for operations tomorrow.

It is not the first A330-200 to service domestic routes (EBJ and EBK have been doing it a while, and some of the JQ fleet was originally slated for domestic ops). WHat Qantas said was

“For the first time Qantas will operate a domestic aircraft featuring state-of-the-art in-seat entertainment for all customers,” Mr Joyce said.

It is planned for new aircraft to have the system installed. No news on retrofitting.

Dare I suggest you check that QF already had 2 domestically configured A330-200 already:oops:

thank you all 3 of you. I guess you choose to ignore my last sentence. Also the fact that Mannej was rather unclear in his post.

First A330-200?

Since when?
First A330-200? No sorry the story doesn't suggest it was the first Qantas A330-200.

It is a very broad statement that can have a lot of meanings.

No Codash you post doesn't do anything to say that Mannej wasn't questioning it being the first qantas A332.

As I said assuming that I haven't realised what Mannej was really talking about. But thank you all for the correction.

Edit: "Slated for Jetstar operations" 2 problems: slated for is not actually doing and jetstar ain't qantas.

plus

I flew to Perth 2 weeks ago on one in J.
International seat configuration and the cabin was full.
Very enjoyable and highly recommended.

Maybe I wasn't clear. In fact re-reading what I wrote, I would say I definitely wasn't clear

Some of the A330-200's now flying with Jetstar were originally flying with a kangaroo on their tail, on domestic services. THey were originally purchased for this purpose, and were transferred to JQ when JQ began international ops.
