Sydney airport madness

Guy and Gals,

The simple answer is DO NOT PAY THE FINE!!!!

SYD airport is on private property - the land belong to the Macquarie Group and the tickets are not legally enforceable.

Yes the parking inspectors are active and yes they do write down or photograph registrations BUT even if they issue you a ticket you do not need to pay it.

I am sure that the hope is that most or some people will and increase their profit but there is not legal requirement for you to pay it.

I can vouch for this as I have got tickets and not paid them, there is no reminder, no record on your RTA records etc.

I recently arrived from CHC on EK - and was waiting up at departures for my driver to drive across from the Kogarah Golf Club. Pretty obvious what I was doing as I was standing there with a trolly complete with luggage.

The parking inspector wrote down another cars rego then asked me what I was doing. He did not have a good command of English, so I told him I was just standing there. He kept asking me what I was doing - Are you flying somewhere, YES I said. Where - Dubai I said. He then goes have a good flight and walked away.

My driver comes along, we jump in and drive off.

Play the game.

Take the ticket - use it for whatever purpose than pay it.

*sigh* I can't believe that this particular issue hasn't draw any kind of mainstream media attention, it's a real mess. I think the time has come for the current Commonwealth Government to face the fact that the previous Government's experiment in privatising monopoly airports has been a miserable failure. The Government should just wear the cost and compulsorily resume the airport. It's a key piece of national infrastructure, but it has become a disgraceful shambles. It's a similar story in other cities (Perth) where this has been tried. Time to admit failure and get on with fixing this mess.

Just read some of the posts here but as the last time I arrived at T1 (bleary eyed, looking for my rental car and it was a 9pm flight from London), cant remember what the setup is @ the intl terminal. so now i've gotta pick up my sister in a few weeks.....seems like one cannot drive into the arrivals area and pick up passengers so what else can i do? Do they seriously fine people for spending a couple minutes picking up passengers? I love Sydney & all but if they tried that in Dublin they'd get kicked in the b*llox on a regular basis!

The easiest thing is to park in the car park and pay the fee. But many people dislike paying for parking when a drive-by pick-up is all that is required.

Hi all,

Perhaps we could organise a letter writing campaign. If enough people complained to their local MP and direct to SAC perhaps they would allow 10 minutes free carparking just to make the issue go away.

Just a thought.....
