I just did a quick trip from and to Sydney airport,
now they are not only booking cars who pick up in drop off (departures)
area, they are giving tickets to Passengers !!!

They will just walk up to the pax who looks like
they are waiting for cars at the drop off (departure) area
and ask them whether they are waiting for pickup,
if they say yes they will just get their IDs and give them a ticket...

They are keen to ask people who are non-English speakers
so they easily give them tickets....

If it is me I will just refuse to coorporate unless they call in the police...

Wouldn't think you could get get a ticket for something you haven't done yet.

Why is it madness that they are targetting people who are not prepared to follow their rules regarding pick ups and drop offs?

Dave

When pax arrive in sydney airport, they were given no chance of reading the rules, and they could have just went to the wrong area of the airport, and
get a ticket, isn't this madness ??

and BAM1748, from what I have seen I think if the pax say yes, the inspector will start writing the ticket, either for the pax or for the car (has yet to arrive ), I am not sure... however I did see some QF crew waiting at the drop off area, but they walked to the far front area to wait...(SYD intl).

I would be surprised if people were going to the departures area to be picked up unless the driver had told them to

Dave

Not surprising, on Friday night there was a huge queue all the way to the outside of the airport as people are doing drive by pick ups....

It is quicker for the pax to walk outside airport area to be picked up IMO...

Hmm domestic at Sydney you could easily get "lost" if you have no luggage to collect as you don't need to go to baggage collection and thus head staright to the nearest external door...

Money gouging at it's finest. :evil::evil::evil::evil::evil: (yes, 5 :evil:s)

Total Sham this

Wonder why media has not picked on this yet!

What next, you cannot drop off passengers unless you park in 'their' car park or pay $x for kerbside drop off?

Is there a drive by pick up for arrivals at Syd, think not.

This has always annoyed me. I can't believe they don't allow pickup at International without having to pay.

I'm not a frequent o/s traveler but when I do I always get picked up at departures. Once I arrived and found a large queue of people being dropped off so called my lift and asked her to wait and I walked out instead. I don't want to cause problems for people being dropped off (I can well imagine being annoyed/frustrated if I was in their shoes) but I just detest Macquarie for charging for pickup. And departures is so rarely busy that it's an effective solution.

I don't fly in peak times for domestic either, so it's never been a problem to be picked up upstairs.

Nb Dave - this is not a personal attack on you.

It is complete madness, and an UNLAWFUL disgrace for some unauthorised fruit loop "traffic enforcement officer" employed by a private money making corporation to ASK PEOPLE FOR THEIR IDENTIFICATION.
They should have absolutely NO RIGHT whatsoever in any civilized society.

Guess Macquarie Airports really do need to balance up their ledgers $$$$$$$$$, and show profit for their investors - with attitude like this, the more money they lose the better.

This sounds like a total abuse of power, and I expect if someone took the matter to court SYD Airport would be laughed out the door.

As it's private property they can ask you to move along. But they can't "fine" you for standing in the wrong place.

I might give this a go (just exit via the Departures level) when I'm up in SYD in 2 weeks.......

I think the whole process is like this,

1. Officer see someone who looks like a pax waiting at the departure level,
2. Officer approach the pax, and ask if he/she is to be picked up,
3. Officer ask for more details, for example name, address etc, and started writing the ticket.
4. Once the car arrives Officer note and write down the the car rego on the ticket, and will give the ticket to either the pax or the driver of the car.

Enjoy Sydney airport.

For me it is always bus route 400 or rental car.

Sounds like this could be a bit of fun, if one has the time to stuff around the parking inspectors.

1. Wait for officer to approach, agree that I need to be picked up.
2. provide all details requested - Name: Mike Hunt
3. If officer doesn't get it and finishes writing ticket, wait for a bit
4. When officer asks where the car and driver are, look incredulous and say "Car! I'm waiting for the train. What they don't go from here? Where do I find the train?"
5. Officer has to explain a non-issued ticket. :(

:D

Slight variation - point to an approaching vehicle (about to legitimately drop off someone), saying "here they are now". Walk towards the car... and keep walking (to bus/train/hire car/terminal).

Richard.

If they ask you if you are getting picked up, ask for their bosses name.

Then you can say 'Yes, that's who I am waiting for!'

Or if your quick enough (and big enough) read their name badge and tell them you are waiting for Mrs Parking Officer.

Would that be abusive or derogatory?

Glad to see you are happy to "torment" a normal person just doing their job.

This is an utter disgrace.

Shame on the government for allowing this to happen.
