I was thinking about this the other day - I seem to have an overwhelming compulsion to video all of my take offs and landings... when I replay these videos to my non-aviation-geek friends, I get little to no response or interest whatsoever.

I see a quite a few aviation buffs out there include takeoff/landing videos in their trip reports, and I really enjoy watching these - do you guys get into this as well? Do you have any favourites?

I've chucked a few of my previous videos up on Youtube - a few of these are below:

YouTube - Landing Sydney (Hamilton Island HTI - SYD) Virgin Blue 737-700

YouTube - Taking Off: Hamilton Island - Sydney (HTI - SYD) Virgin Blue 737-700

YouTube - Taking off from Rarotonga (Cook Islands) Air NZ 767

YouTube - Landing Sydney NZ831 ZQN - SYD (A320)

YouTube - Taking off in Queenstown Air NZ 831 ZQN - SYD 10/07/2009

YouTube - Landing in Lismore Rex SAAB 340

YouTube - Landing in Queenstown (NZ834 BNE - ZQN)

Do you guys have any good ones to share?

haydensydney,

How do you manage to make these videos whilst complying with the requirement to turn off ALL electronic equipment for landings :?:

straitman,

Consider me non-compliant.

Although - in my early days I used to ask the crew if operating a small digital camera would be an issue, which it never was. I've never seen the need to seek approval thereafter.

Third world hunger; Nuclear threats from rogue states; Macular Degeneration amongst our ageing population; Reduction of Smiths crisps packets from 200g to 185g....

...all of these monumental issues of worldwide significance and i'm getting lynched for taking happy snap vids during take off and landing.

I'm so glad i've activated the CASA law enforcement faction. I shall cease at once.

people have been filming takeoffs and landings for decades, what about all those aviation videos, filmed from right inside the coughpit. in fact many pilots film from the coughpit. yes it may technically be against the regulations but its something that the airlines will never stop. checkout my youtube channel

Like the Tiger landing vid - first I've seen for a landing for OOL so thanks for that. You've got a good selection

So it's ok to ignore rules if they are inconveniant ?

It isn't just a technicality, it is clearly stated that ALL electrical/electronc devices must be switched off, not switch off unless wanting to use them

FWIW, Qantas now permit the use of specific types of digital cameras during takeoff and landing. The specifics are on the safety cards and vary slightly depending upon the aircraft.

Along with many other posters I think your desire to film during TO/landing doesn't outweigh the regulations set by the airline safety authorities.

Hopefully I wont be smacked in the head by your camera during a hard landing - and if I am then you want to know how it gets returned to you.

If some one can, in all honesty, say the use of a camera, i-pod, lap-top or even a phone really interfer with the safe operation of a plane, I'll never fly again.

Apart from safe exit in case of emergency and that should be the only reason.

Mr Ed,
when I get home this evening I will send you a PM and provide you with some information.

I hope you are prepared to live up to your claim of never flying again:!:

OK. So the issue is more with me flouting regulations besides the impact my little digital camera can physically make to the aircraft. It must really annoy you guys when you witness drivers go over the speed limit by 1km or who park in that car park for 1min longer than they should.... quick, get the pitchforks!

But for the record, I will not stop taking these videos and I will enjoy watching these videos. Reading other threads on this topic on other boards I can say that you guys have been extremely hard on me in comparison - not very nice IMO.

I suggest a new thread be created if you want to discuss this at length, as my thread was not intended as a lynching ground.

I don't think that anyone coming on and stating that they have an obsessive compulsion to break the law and then proudly stating that they will continue to do so would get much support on these fora

If travelling on a flight that allows electronic devices to be on, then fair enough, but the regulations are not there to pick and choose from of which feel like following

Dave

seriously, if people want to discuss breaking rules on flights, take it to another thread, starting to get annoyed reading this thread and all the posts from people who think that the op gives a coughk.

to the op, great vids :D

I wouldn't call it an obsessive compulsion, cheers anyway.

However in future I will ask for permission to take said videos from the crew. Simple.
