LAN SYD-AKL J Special - Good SC earner

True, but I'll pay that for the one-way...over having a similarly priced return ticket with a 3.30am (AKL time) wake up for a 6am flight (which can often be delayed or cancelled). That's why I don't risk the return in J on LAN...particularly if I'm coming back to go to work that day.

Wouldnt LAN maybe rebook their J pax onto a QF service if they cancelled?

Doh! Was looking to fly one of these and credit the miles on Asia Miles. But realised that no points earn on I fares ...... But a excellent price for SYD-AKL J though, especially it is not that much more expensive than normal Y fare.

Beauty!
Just bought two tickets for a weeks holiday in N.Z on LAN in their Premium Business, booking comes straight up on my Qantas F.F bookings page.
Pics of the cabin & food etc will be posted

Actually getting the points and SC's to credit is my problem - flew Sep 1 and no sign of them...yet.

Did you submit a missing points claim to QF?

If you did, it might be time to call QF and start kicking.

I did submit a claim and called yesterday - can take up to 15 working days (3 weeks) from the time the claim is submitted.

Yes they would, but this still would mean a delayed return to BNE for me, as I would still be travelling via SYD or MEL (but much later in the day).

Just to tie up a loose end - the points and SC's did not appear. Filled in the claim - which was denied - supposedly since my name was mis-spelt. (It wasn't - I had the boarding pass stub).

Today I faxed boarding pass stub (which has seat number and not which class) and the LAN confirmation at 11 am and points and SC's posted by 2 pm. So kudos to the QF FF division. 40 more SC's to requalify for plat.

i'm on the OMG o-clock out of AKL in early feb (final leg of my honeymoon)

will post a trip report when i get back :)

What is it with LAN apparently not wanting to post points to QFF? I did the business SYD-AKL return with them back in October. Strangely, the points for LA800 (SYD-AKL) turned up no problems and with no prompting within a week.

LA801 (AKL-SYD), on the other hand.. filled in the online claim, got an "invalid name" response a couple of weeks later on my activity statement. Really? Strange, same name that was on my LA800 boarding pass, and an exact match for my QFF details. Then I contacted the FF centre via the online form, they requested I email/fax boarding pass etc, I emailed scans of the docs through, now I've logged in again to see the same ridiculous "invalid name" denial message. I think I'll have to resort to ye olde telephone and call them tomorrow.

Have many other people had issues, and any ideas on what the problem is?

I just had exactly the same thing happen.
LAN800 showed up straight away, no worries.

LAN801="INVALID NAME", no way to get it fixed online.

Rang the 131211 QFF phone number, spoke to the lovely Chris, points appeared that day.

Good service on LAN, nice seats, food, IFE, I'd certainly use them again.

Hi guys,

NOOB question - I have one of these OMG hour J flights (AKL-SYD). Just wondering what time you checked in, and whether you did this at the LAN / Qantas / Qantas Club check in counters.

I'm only travelling with carry-on.

Cheers,
W

check in at Q business check in. This is a seperate room to the left of the main check in counters.

The last time I did such a flight was February 2009.

Check-in summarily opens at least 2 hrs before departure. I thought it would be 3 hrs but IIRC checkin for me didn't open until about 0330h (i.e. the flight leaves at 0550h or something like that; note that the textbook protocol for international flights is 3 hrs before departure).

The Qantas Premium check-in area opens earlier than the LA check-in counters, however I was directed to the LA check-in counters due to "different booking systems" (i.e. QF wouldn't check me in). There is a dedicated LA J counter; as you can imagine in the dead of morning there shouldn't be much of a crowd at all.

Immigration doesn't usually open until at least 0400h and for me it only opened at 0420h. Things might have changed since AKL I got a face lift, so YMMV.

Would be interesting to hear your experiences.

Note also that unless Airbus has gone 24 hours now, there isn't an Airbus service from Auckland city that will arrive in time for you to check-in for your flight. You will need to either organise a shuttle through your hotel, take a taxi, or create other arrangements.

Thanks guys, I'll let you know how this all gets on (although, given the time of morning and level of alcohol remaining in the system, may be vague (at best))

I've been commuting SYD-AKL-SYD, however have always flown QF evening flights given my work schedules. This is the first time I've flown the return leg on a Sat (client 'entertainment' on Friday, so lets hope we behave ourselves that night or the AM flight will be most 'interesting' ), enabling me to sample this product. From memory, my previous LAN flights (SYD / SCL / LIM) were pretty decent - flown in Y.

I'll try kiwitripper64's suggestion first of checking in at Q business (and hopefully get pre-cleared immigration). If not, I'll have to try LAN J.

I was hoping to arrive at AKL airport around 4:30am (car organised), which I believe is when Q business check in opens.

Cheers,
W
