Hi

Just checked my booking for Tuesday 30 June SYD-LAX and I've discovered my flight time has been changed slightly and the aircraft has changed from a B747 to the A380.

Looking at the weekly timetable for that week (and a few either side... too lazy to keep looking!) QF11 will now use the A380 on Tuesdays as well as Wed, Fri and Sun. The QF A380 page at Flying with Us - Qantas A380 - Qantas A380 Implementation Schedule hasn't been updated yet.

I reluctantly booked the flight for that date as the date of arrival took priority over the aircraft used so I'm quite happy to have the aircraft changed!

Cool ....

One would assume the 4th QF A388 would be operational by then (Due March '09) ... maybe even the 5th ... (Due 2nd ¼ '09)

Every Tuesday from July through 8th September QF11/12 has changed to A388 then reverts back to 744???

Just had a quick look back in the timetable. Seems as though it is starting on June 9 to September 1 (inclusive).

Would these dates match up with US school holidays?

That could be the case, and remember QF have just had a massive amount of sales from U.S. customers to come down here (I think it was 160% up from last year) as a result of the G'Day USA event, and they were flogging the A388 to death during that week or so, including the A388 visit to SFO.

It will be nice when QF11/12 exclusively operate the A388, then gradually start doing QF107/108 sectors

The 4th A380 is allowing the TUE service to operate from JUN.

It will also allow for an extra SYD-SIN-LHR service on THUR/SUN to make that route 5 x weekly and SYD-LAX 4 x weekly with the A380.

With A380's what was known on the 11th Feb may not be true on the 17th Feb ... (A bit like the 787 really) :p

Well, on the 17th, there's two 380s here at SYD.

Nancy is at international cargo, and there's a big shiny new one in a hangar.

Watching a Y-J upgrade request for a relative on QF11 SYD-LAX tomorrow (Wed 12 August) and noticed that aircraft type in the reservation has just changed from A380 to B747.

Does anyone know what has happened?

Why would QF so late in the piece switch aircraft from A380 to B747?

Will this upset those (they have been on here before) who thought they were getting the A380 and will now have the B747?

While it may upset some, there is no recourse for that as there is no price premium charged for use of the A380.

relative has got his upgrade on the 747 so he's pleased!!

There was a bit of a write up in today's Australian inthe Aviation section on the 380s. This suggests that the fourth QF A380 was delayed a bit past May. Might explain the switch back to a 747 on the route

Airbus 800-seat A380 to be fare slasher | The Australian

Qantas is due to take its fourth superjumbo shortly and will use it to increase frequencies on its existing routes to the US.

More importantly, the fourth Qantas A380, designated MSN26, is the first to emerge from the so-called Wave Two production process -- the automated industrial system that will be used to produce A380s from now on.
