BA to scrap meals on short haul flights

Not at all.

I get status by virtue of the travel I have to do anyway, predominantly on Qantas since it is a preferred corporate carrier. I do not go around spending time taking flights for the sake of getting status
Nobody said or suggested other wise.

SINCE I have status anyway, there is a benefit to taking BA over other similar priced options for what are PERSONAL flights when in Europe. I am not taking BA with the intent of attaining status credits nor for the pitiful 250 miles that would be earned from the flight. BA is not an airline that would be likely to be used for business travel
Once again, nobody said or suggested other wise.

i.e. I use BA because of already having status and so the extra GBP10 - GBP20 on such a route is worthwhile to me
We agree again :!:

For a typical traveller who doesnt care less about FF schemes ( common in the UK ) nor travel frequently, BA offers little tangible benefit to the typical economy passenger
This is a major and unsubstantiated generalisation.

Feel free to misinterpret as feel fit

No misinterpretation. Half the post was a quote of you adapted from first person to second person and it essentially said what you have said above.

Totally agree, the point being they've got you hook line and sinker just by providing an 'exclusive' lounge.
Totally disagree with the hook, line and sinker statement. Believe it or not we are all different and do things for different reasons.

I have status courtesy of my almost weekly commute SYD-BNE plus a few other flights to SE Asia. Qantas is by far the cheapest and most efficient carrier even with delays. Virgin and Jetstar are not even remotely close to being feasible options. Believe me I have done the research.

Now back to BA for intra-Europe flights. I mentioned earlier we are all different. Well I like to have a couple of beers or more before each flight and I travel with checked luggage. No ifs not buts. So if the difference between BA and the LCC's is only going to be a few £ then why bother flying EasyJet or god forbid Ryanair? Take BA with SCs, measly points and lounge access. It will end up costing me more to fly LCC's and I have no time or patience to be inconvenienced with the poor excuses LCC's use for their constant delays and poor choice of airports at the destination.

So you can take your hook, line and sinker and go to the LCC's and see if you can get a better deal. I know I am way way much better off sticking to reputable carriers and my lounge access....

The only point I cannot understand in this discussion, is someone actually wants lounge access for a domestic trip that is 90 minutes?

I would rather arrive at the airport last.

Or am I missing somthing???

Depends on what you are doing before and/or after the flight. Some people use the time in the lounge to do work, i.e. use the computers or print something. Others are there for refreshments.

For someone who really just needs AAA to BBB then your point is very valid.

Also for a few flights of 90 minutes per year, maybe no big deal. When you do this more regularly or couple it with regular flying, some people may have a case for lounge access.

Whether its practical or merely comfort, people obtain lounge access and use it for a reason and usually irrespective of the length of the upcoming flight. The reasons may or may not make any sense to you, but we're all complicated beings......

It so depends.

In MEL, I used to know that it was 20 minutes from home to the airport, only once in 9 years did it stretch to 35 minutes. Since OLCI, I used to leave home 50 mins before scheduled departure (at least when I had no checked baggage), and get straight onto the plane. Sometimes I mights swing by the QP to have an OJ (usually for morning deptrs), but would not need lounge access.

However, often would come home after finishing a meeting earlier, or in case of some destinations (eg CBR) have a couple of hours to kill before the flight. Only a 1 hr flight, but lounge access was really handy when waiting around for that flight anyway (wifi, drinks, snacks etc).

And then there's delays, almost always better to be stuck waiting in the lounge ....

I guess it is good if you arrive late, true.

If I arrive on time, I just wait at the gate. It is too far for me to walk (e.g. ADL).

Actually I have the tendency of arriving late. Aren't 95% of the passengers (other than some holiday makers) the same???

Dunno - I'm a "What time does check-in Open?" type of guy.

I like to be at the airport two hours at least before my flight - and that includes transits ...

Isn't there something written; maybe its more for US flights you you should arrive 2 hours before your flight, so in a way you get there early; on time and then use the lounge when you are early.

I would rather be early and use the lounge than be late and miss the flight.

I get very anxious before a flight and even with medication I can still get very anxious. So I prefer to get to the airport earlier and sit in the lounge for 1/2 an hour or so depending on how organised I am that day and have a drink or two before the flight.

Lounge access is not the end all and be all of flying but when you do fly regularly enough it is a nice distraction....
