Hi all.
I am flying economy SYD-MEL on Qantas on Saturday (6am flight) and want to know if anyone know what's on the breakfast menu these days. My last few flights all offered a cold banana, Sultana Bran and a fruit muffin.
Given one my quirks is I eat no food with fruit in it, I end up very hungry. And at that time of the morning I am not focussed enough to think of breakfast beforehand. However, if it's the same breakky I will ensure I get up early enough to go through a drive through McDs for breakfast...It might be junk but at least it contains no fruit. :)

Thanks,
PW

You had better start mapping those 24H MickeyD's that are on the way to the airport!

Other than that, you might like to alter your meal selection for this flight.

Funny you mention this.,. when I am on the breakfast flights I really like having the cereal.

Often though, I am the only person in my immediate area NOT having the hot breakfast.. greasy? no thanks!

Chances are you'll end up with some kind of cereal with a fruit bag and a warm sultana bread roll.

Selecting a special meal might not help either. I haven't had any luck with Qantas and my egg and lactose intolerance.

Maybe this is why I prefer DJ - yes you pay for the meal, but you get to choose what you want.

Lately it's been a choice of cereal (dunno which) and 'frittata' which they describe as vegetable but it has bacon in it! Not bad. Comes with some other bits and pieces I can't quite recall. Also get a yoghurt.
By this time I've already eaten my birchermuesli in the Club so I welcome the hot stuff.

Does a banana count as food with fruit in it? Isn't it just fruit? :p

Unless of course you eat the skin as well.....

Only J (Business) class gets a hot meal option; last time I few J during breakfast, hot offering was scrambled eggs, spinach, chat potatoes and tomato. Last time I flew I peeked into J and I saw some sort of meat, so might be changing.

If you're flying WHY (Economy), then standard is the continental option. Last time I flew them the offering was Weetbix honey snaps (with full cream milk), apple bag and a warm roll (sometimes it may have fruit in it, e.g. red currants; other times it may be a savoury one, like a cheese scroll, or it could just be a plain affair). A picture from the field below:

Of course, menu might have changed by now. I used to balk eating the same stupid Just Right for flights on end. Weetbix snaps aren't nutritionally superior to Just Right cereal, though.....

Not sure if you can order a special meal for Y and get something better. I ordered a LFML breakfast one time and all they did was give me Corn Flakes in place of the Weetbix and skim milk rather than full cream. (And it was lame because the Weetbix is a self-containing bowl, but you had to pour the Corn Flakes into a shallow dish to eat it, i.e. dumb idea). Some people have reported asking for a VGML and getting eggs, but I doubt this will happen very much. (What part of a continental breakfast is not vegetarian, unless you are a vegan in which case you wouldn't eat eggs anyway!)

QP wouldn't cover you much either, unless you like toast a LOT (and Vegemite or honey, since the other spreads are fruit based, e.g. strawberry jam and marmalade). J Lounges have pikelets and maple syrup (and berry compote, but that's fruit...)

So looks like if you want to cover yourself, better make a stop at a McD's on the way to the airport.

I used to balk at having continental breakfast all the time when flying QF in the morning, whether it be in the QP/JL or on board. Mostly because 90% of anything you ate was sweet. Now, I don't really mind at all, but most likely because I have to watch what I eat and they got rid of that accursed Just Right (I have a bad feeling, though, it will be back....)

I remember this time last year flying to Sydney and a few times we had ham and cheese Croissants (or similar).. quite miss those.

Lately all I have had is the cereal on mine..

Same here on SYD-MEL/BNE/ADL - only cereal in whY. I wont eat the weetbix crunch anymore - it is basically cardboard chunks.

With sugar. :)

Seriously, it's better than the Just Right, which at times tasted like second-grade paper packing material.

I had Just Right for breakfast this morning (@home!). I usually have 2-3 cereals on hand, as I'm not a huge fan of toast (don't find it filling enough); so as to mix things up a little bit and not get sick of the same old boring thing every day!

Caveat: everything tastes better on the ground.
