Hi All

I have an opportunity coming up to stay at Hilton hotels and I was thinking of joining the Hilton Honors program in anticipation.

I noticed that HHonors have a Double Dip Option as part of their loyalty program.

I have a question for those HHonors members, as Qantas is not a participating airline for the variable miles program, could I just join the HHonors Points and HHonors Points program and get 15 points per US$ and still show my Qantas FF card to earn the standard 1000 points per stay ?

And if I chose to stay at a Hilton for 2 nights over 3 days (with a day in between), will I still get 1000 points per stay ?

I am still debating whether to join the SPG or HHonors program but if I could get the 15 points per stay + 1000 points for Qantas, I think the Hilton program would be the better option...

Any thoughts ?

Thanks

No, it's one only of:

  • 10 HHonors per USD and 1000 QFF points with HHonors Points and Fixed Miles, OR
  • 15 HHonors per USD with HHonors Points and HHonors Points.

Yes, 2 x 1000 QFF points and 10 HHonors points per USD with "HHonors Points and Fixed Miles".

Probably not the right thread for this question, but rather than start another Hilton thread......

I have just under 10k HH points left and that's not enough to transfer to Qantas (has to be in 10k lots). Is it possible to transfer these to Amex and then onto Qantas? Any other suggestions as to what I can do with 9k points? There is very little chance of me ever earning HH points again.

JB

I have heard that if you fax the Hilton bills to QF after you have stayed and your points have posted to HH then you might get the 1000 credit to QF...

Hmm - you have made me think Ikara - I have 270K HHonors points - wonder if they could be flicked to AAdvantage...

You might want to flick just a few to Qantas...

Transfer your points for your chance to win* a Wildlife Safari trip to Africa! Register online and transfer your points from a participating hotel partner loyalty program into Qantas Frequent Flyer points by 30 June 2008 and you could win a sensational African adventure.
As detailed in an email today from Qantas.

Richard.

Good to see we have an ethical auditor on board :)

I do not know how strictly they police it but you can purchase the required points to get over the 10,000 points mark and then transfer to Qantas instead of using points for a reservation.

Need more points? If you'd like to buy more points to complete a Reward Reservation, you may purchase up to 40,000 bonus points per calendar year to be used toward any HHonors reward. Now when you purchase at least 10,000 HHonors Points at one time, your cost is only $.01 per point. If you purchase under 10,000 Points in any one transaction, your price will remain at $.0125 per point. You will need to allow 30 minutes for your account balance to update before you begin your Reward search. You may purchase points online.

Or you can transfer points between HH accounts at a cost of US$25 for every 10,000 points. Someone here on AFF or FT coupon connection may have a need for some HH points.

If those extra points have been sitting in your Hilton HHonors® account and you can't figure out what to do with them, consider passing them along to a friend or family member who's also an HHonors member. Your parents may be just a few hundred points short of the cruise they've always dreamed of. Or maybe you want to reunite the family for a reunion this summer and want to transfer your points to your brothers, sisters or cousins to help them make the trip home.

The choice is yours, whatever the reason: vacation, wedding, birthday or graduation. If the points are there, they are there for the giving.
How it Works

The Point Transfer Program allows you to set up a registry to give and/or receive points from other Hilton HHonors members. The Program places HHonors rewards — vacations, cruises, merchandise and more — within easy reach. Here's how: Give Points or Receive Points.

Further to serfty's and simongr's posts above, with regard to earning 1000 QFF points per stay, do people choose 'Points & Miles' in their profile or are there people out there who choose 'Points & Points' but still earn QFF points as well as HHonors points? I'm in the latter category but I'm wondering if I've just been lucky. Although QFF points don't post automatically (I always have to fax QFF with a copy of the hotel invoice), I always get the 1000 points, as well as the HHonors 'Points & Points'. Have I just been fortunate or do others have the same experience?

I think you are extrememly lucky and what you are doing would appear to be fraudulent for use of a better word.

You can choose "Points & Miles" with HHonors at which point HHonors will credit you HHonors points and QFF points for the stay. This is valid double dipping as per the HHonors terms and conditions.

If you choose "Points and Points" you should not be sending the Hilton invoice to claim QFF points as well for the stay. This is against the terms and conditions and you are in fact triple dipping.

It may not pay to continue with your current practice....

So which of the two miles options do people choose in order to earn 1000 QFF points, HHonors Points & Variable Miles or HHonors Points & Fixed Miles?

On this page, https://www.hiltonhhonors.com/myway/EarningStyle_pop.aspx?lang=EN, the HHonors Points and Variable Miles option does not include Qantas so I assume this is not appropriate. The second option, HHonors Points and Fixed Miles, refers only to earning 500 miles. However, at this page, http://hhonors1.hilton.com/en_US/hh/points/earningmiles.do, Qantas is listed as earning 1000 points.

Mine is set to HHonors Points and Fixed Miles. No issue having the 1,000 QFF points post in fact with the last Hilton stay I received 3,000 QFF points as per the triple points promotion.

It says 500 but you get 1000.

I very my selection depending upon the rate, most of the time it's points and points.

So as a HHG I get Base points + 50% bonus + 25% Gold Bonus per USD.

So you don't worry about QFF points on most occasions?
Hmmm, how best to put it? I've had more recent use for HHonors points than QFF points in recent times.

(However, with O/Q/N class upgrades for the next week, perhaps I'll be burning some soon ... :p)

Has anyone had experience with HHonors points posting for a Travelzoo rate? They currently have a $99 special for the Parmelia Hilton in Perth which, when you throw in the 20% HPC discount is extremely attractive. I know you don't get points for stays booked through a third party website but the Travelzoo special directs you to the Hilton site. Here you enter the promotion code but in section 15 of the HHonors T&Cs it states:
Members will not earn points or miles for Reward Stays or hotel stays redeemed with a marketing partner’s discount/free certificate (e.g. frequent flyer award or travel award), unless otherwise stated on the certificate.
I wouldn't think it's considered a certificate.

Section 3 reads:
The term “stay” under these Terms and Conditions does not include any stays of the following nature: wholesale/tour operator packages; contracted airline crew rates; travel industry rates (including but not limited to travel agent discount rates); complimentary or barter rooms; Reward Stays; NET Group rates; Series Group or IT Group rates; contracted Entertainment or Encore rates; third party websites bookings (irrespective of rate paid); and "opaque" channel bookings where the brand is unknown at the time of purchase. HHonors points may not be earned for ineligible stays or during ineligible stays, including without limitation, folio charges incurred during ineligible stays.

Many who went to Oz Fest in Cairns this year used a Travel Zoo rate and as far as I'm aware there was no issues with getting the points. It certainly worked for me. I did have to ask to get the HPC discount which seemed to be applied begrudgingly.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I had no issue with HHonors points, triple Qantas points or HPC discount during my Cairns stay. However, I have seen the Parmelia have these $99 promotions that sometimes get points and sometimes don't.

Not sure whether that is fraudulent, as surely QF could be checking...perhaps immoral or unethical may be closer.

I don't put to QFF on any occasion. My double dip go to AA (for the better benefits that program gives me). Like serfty, my 3 stays in Hiltons this week are being funded through point redemptions. Great way to reduce costs in the tough economic times.

Like straitman & oz_mark, I had no issues getting the HH points on the Travelzoo rate; but I had to remind them about the 20% HPC discount (which was very worthwhile as I had 9 nights).

Well, must go, my plane awaits

I rang reservation about this rate, and apparently it is not eligibe for the 20% HPC discount, nor will it get HHonors points (being a "promotional rate"). So, if you want those things, be ready to argue your case!
